We got married 13 guests, a second hand wedding dress and husband wore the suit he wore to his sister's wedding. Family weren't pleased at first but then we talked about eloping (which is totally us) and they soon shut up and got behind us. 😁 Loved learning more about you!

Totally agree with you about the whole wedding debacle. The amount of money that people spend astounds me - it's one day. The celebration should be about the couple, and I have friends who have put themselves into debt for it. A refreshing video, nice to learn a bit more about you. Xx

My parents eventually got married 7 years ago (for financial reasons more than anything) after 32 years together, while we were on holiday in the US.. The day cost us $150~ for the court's time, then lunch out for just the 4 of us. I can't imagine spending more than that ever and it astounds me watching programmes like Say Yes To The Dress :o

I have SUCH strong feelings about what you described when it comes to A levels. I work as a private tutor on the side (mostly GCSE) and half of my job is to bolster school students’ confidence because, due to “bad grades,” they are absolutely convinced that they’re stupid and of course, they never are. It’s heartbreaking and wrong, the whole grading system is usually rotten and the social status attached to them is just deplorable. Good for you for rising above all that: grades genuinely do not matter, ESPECIALLY if you have the right attitude. Your hours of effort revising in the library were worth more than a single letter, and that dedication shows in your videos. Sorry for the rant!

You are so right. Grades do not reflect what the person will or will not achieve in their lives! I hate the whole grading and competition system that the school is breeding.

My boyfriend and I are gonna get married next year for our 10 years. We need to because we are gonna travel a lot in the next few years and it is safer for a lot of reasons. It is also a way to see all family and friends before going abroad . But we are definitely doing something simple, vegan and low waste. If people are not happy I don’t care ...

Something to consider is that if you and your partner should decide to marry and have a wedding, you can have a sustainable wedding and have a vegan feast to show people how it can be done properly and prioritize your values over tradition and other people’s values.

Oh so would I! I love using this word instead of minimalism now. I've realized it's what I've been; rather than a minimalist per say. I've been 'minimizing' for years, but I'm more of an essentialist by nature and function as such. Looking at things that way has really opened up a new perspective because I didn't really match that word to it even though it's honestly how I've been doing things all along, I just wasn't calling it that. I do'nt know why words matter so much haha but they do!

My husband and I decided to get married basically for the medical benefits. We both are disabled and have medical issues that have put us in the hospital at various points in our lives. So, we wanted to be able to advocate for each other when we did end up in the hospital unable to make our own decisions. Our wedding was perfect. We had about 30-50 friends and family at a tiny wedding venue located right behind our apartment complex. His mom cooked all of the food and his family helped with the decorations and everything else to make it run smoothly. We were married by my husband's grandma's old pastor who had to leave his old church because he's gay. The whole thing cost about $6,000, including the venue, food, clothing, decorations and everything else. If you ever do get married, make sure you designate someone to be the go-to for all complaints so the two of you aren't bothered by any bitching. :)

the grades thing got to me a bit. I struggled with studying in high school, and what I always read or wanted to read as "you are stupid" was really "you could do good in school if only..." which I started to understand around the last 2 years of school, but even then I needed more confidence, more demonstrations of respect and love and I struggled so bad to focus on a bunch of subjects partly bc of how the books were written, partly because I was distracted by internal struggles and wishes. I understand it best now that I am 23, and I could not have done different. I was introspective but I saw things as they were twisted by my self-loathing. I want to start working on this sooner or later. and I agree with what you said for every point that allows for an opinion XD

Though I think you could have proved the tail thing by mooning the screen. ;) We spent very little on our wedding and had a small number of the people we love best there. I am not Vegan, never will be; I am a good Christian (not a holy-roller or a judgy poser); I am a scientist by profession; I am a loving US Patriot; I am trying to reduce my impact on the planet & people in any way other than touching a soul 😁 So easy to be KIND & TOLERANT. And, from what I’ve seen, you are... Your videos opened my eyes to so many things that I aspire to change in my life. PS. My first wedding (age 22) was perfect, the guy ended up being a Class-A jerk! My second wedding (age 37) was private in my living room, 6 of us total... and, my marriage was the focus instead of the wedding. We’ve been together 18 years, married 10. So many were mad at us for just “doing the damn thing.” But, THEY weren’t our focus! SO YOU DO YOUR WEDDING (or, not do your wedding) & MARRIAGE AS YOU & YOUR MAN SEE FIT 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS & LEARN WITH EVERY ONE!!! Thanks!!!!!!!

I am in the same position as you were in high school. I am in grade 10 and both this year and last year I have got some of my worst grades and most of them as well. I chose a very math oriented class when i am good at learning languages, only to be able to learn German with the teacher, that actually helped me discover that I was better at languages. That is my only skill that is appreciated in the school system of my country, learning languages very easily, just by paying attention during class, I can get a B or an A sometimes. So because I am not very interested in getting good grades (I know that I could be a top student, but I simply don't care for that kind of appreciation ) I always feel like my classmates who get better grades and aren't that close to me constantly judge me for it and think i am dumb. But then I also don't get happiness out of it so it is annoying, especially when my mom used to be at thw top of her class and constantly tells me that she was the best but of course she worked hard for it. Well done, but I don't want that! 🙄

My boyfriend is from Scotland and I lived in America- we dated for 5 years before finally getting married (because of visas etc as you say...you pretty much have to get married) last year & now live in Scotland. So hang in there!! :) Long distance is the worst because it's so heartbreaking being apart most of the time, but ultimately when things were hard I'd think: I can either stick it out, or break up... is he worth it? I HEAR YA on the American boyfriend thing. I fell in love with an American, and to stay together long term in the UK we decided to get married. We had the smallest, most casual wedding we could think of. After the register office legal bit we had our ceremony in tipis with hay bales in my parents' back garden... homemade cakes, foraged table arrangements, humanist celebrant... you get the idea! Low cost, low stress, all about celebrating with close family and close friends. Extended family who didn't get an invite will always be bent out of shape about it, but you have to do what right for you.

I believe everyone should have the right of being who they feel they are and love who they love 🙂 I agree with you on marriage, point by point, I don't need a ring to know I love my boyfriend and it annoys me to think of inviting people just for "diplomatic" reasons. It honestly ticks me off something chronic that people feel so shamed about B's and C's in results. Sometimes ppl have a super chaotic homelife, neurological conditions/learning difficulties (I have some that were undiagnosed at the time of my GCSE's and uni) but are perfectly intelligent and capable people. I understand that education is such a privilege but I wouldn't be surprised if making out to kids that B's and C's aren't worth pride is stopping them from even trying. EDIT: I did not mean this as an attack against you, Immy, just as a general point, You always come across as very thoughtful, down to earth and fair.

I wonder if you could address more about zero waste in terms of energy and fuels, this includes not just transportation but water, for example ( there's so much energy put into water treatment, wells, etc, and also diverting water from wherever it is has an effect on ecosystems), or food or electronics, or other items we get wasteful at... I'd also would like you to talk about extinction rebellion, the school strikes for climate and other interesting movements, or at least some initiatives making positive change you believe in... It’s not THAT hard to get a visa to move to the UK if you’re getting married or are already married. As long as your BF doesn’t have a criminal background, and you make at least the required income to sponsor him, it’s actually a fairly straightforward process (just expensive and time consuming). If he’s still in university, that could necessitate a way until he’s graduated, but otherwise it wouldn’t be too difficult. My husband is from the U.K., I’m American, after dating Trans-Atlantically for three years, we decided that we either were going to break up or live together in the same country. Flying across the Atlantic multiple times a year so we could spend a week or two together at a time wasn’t something we were willing to do forever. It’s just not emotionally sustainable long term. Marriage was the best/easiest way for us to be able to get a visa and be in the same country. He chose to come to the USA, but the visa requirements for the U.K. wouldn’t have been that different. We’ve started looking at the requirements to possibly move back to the U.K. (he’s still a citizen) and even that is a fairly straightforward process. A wedding doesn’t have to be a huge event. Ours was super small with just our parents, my brother, and his wife. No church, no minister, and our dinner was just a reservation at a nice restaurant. The whole thing (other than our rings) cost way under $2000.

My husband and I got married after 15 years and one son who was 10 at the time. Our son gave me away and was also best man. We had a wedding breakfast but no evening reception and just 35 guests. My husbands father had recently died so we wanted to make sure there wasn’t a ‘hole’ where he should be so we didn’t follow traditions. I gave the speech. And you know what? Every one was relaxed and happy and glad they didn’t have the marathon day weddings usually entail. Do it your way, those who love you will be happy and the rest can bugger off 😂😂😂

I hear you about religion. I cannot believe that a God can decide who dies or lives (I lost someone and I was devastated about it). However, not all religions have a God and since I became Nichiren Buddhist I feel free to be myself, happier and stronger. I don't pray a God, I simply try to achieve happiness in this life and to make people happy. :-)

We are on the same wave length in many ways and I would also like to say that I'd never encourage any European in any country to move to the US. No no no way. By all means your partner should be the one moving there, you have a much better life. If I was single I'd be moving over there too. I kinda tell my partner we should run away from our families and move there too. I mean.... I don't feel like there's a lot of need to explain why.

I found it interesting that you read an assumption stating “religion” - and then responded by mentioning that you weren’t raised “Christian”. As a Jew, I’m noticing this more and more. And I know it’s even more normal in England. So many people default to thinking everyone is Christian. They’re not. Religious ≠ Christian. It is fun to get to know you more personally though! Thanks for sharing!

Why is all creators on youtube worried about long videos? Most people spend hours and hours on youtube, I have already watched all your content and I just subscribed not too long ago! half hour for a video is great.

I dont think anyone who quits anything are bad people but! I just dont think people should come out as something unless they know that cannot change for them. When you say hey....I'm vegan....for me in my mind vegans are against eating meat or anything from animals because they love animals and respect them...so when you go against that and stop being vegan it doesnt really make sense. I for one dont eat meat but I recently started. My family meaning my husband and son still eat meat so it's hard to find replacements for our favorite food.

Is it just me or is the idea of "borders" just ridiculous? I mean, if governments need to keep track, fine. Drop them a line "I'll be in your country for a while or forever, not sure, but I will be kind and work and pay taxes like a good soldier. Right, Cheers!" Do we really need more than that? I can never wrap my head around it. Reminds me of a song lyric "Freedom bares no credence when the lack of it's still being justified (in small minds).-Lone Justice #AmericaSucks (speaking as an american)

I totally respect everyone's beliefs. But I just want to say this: God never said anybody is wrong to be themselves. The church people say that. There is a very important difference. Like anything else, your relationship with God or religion should be yours, personal, and true to your feelings. I just think you are missing out, just because you got scared off by different "rules". It's just my opinion, based on your explanation/argument here. :) I'm totally with you about the marriage.

I do not like America either, but it sounded as if moving to America would be the stupidest thing. What if your boyfriend would share the same thoughts towards England. I think decisions like this need more compromise between the two people. And also I believe after the marriage the visa question would be solved automatically, making the move effortless overnight:) Sorry for saying this, but this was my first thought after watching the video. Of course I should not judge after 15min.

@@SustainablyVegan "We have talked about it million times and came to this decision together" indeed differs from ""no offence guys, but I absolutely not moving to the US, absolutely not" . Sorry I think I am just bickering here, which is of course does not make so much sense.

I don't know about Immy but as a European I wouldn't want to either and I know many who wouldn't. Public healthcare cover for all here, affordable education, 5 weeks paid annual leave, no worries about gun violence, I can cycle everywhere, no religious crazies in politics, no fear mongering 24/7 on TV news, healthier better quality food, no Trump...lots of reasons.

HELL NO DONT GO! Do not move to US. Stay strong. Not anti-patriotic here, realist and from lived experience, this aint the place to be for ‘our brand’ right now. Academia is an expensive receipt. Nothing more. Stay away from that too. It makes Jack a dull boy so to speak. But you know this already. Carry on. May everything and everyone good come your way... including your boyfriend 😉
