    Most of the characters are from what I remember, named after inventors, philosophers, mathematicians and scientists. Newt after Isaac Newton, Gally after Galilieo Galilei, Thomas after Thomas Edison, Alby after Albert Einstein, Winston after Winston Churchill, Teresa after Mother Teresa, Chuck after Charles Darwin, Ben after Benjamin Franklin, and Frypan was also known as Siggy in the novels after Sigmund Freud. Minho however is named after James Dashner's niece's husband. You'll meet Aris and Harriet later in the series who are named after Aristotle and Harriet Tubman. And since they don't include this in the films, I'm technically not spoiling anything but Sonya (who you'll meet in the second movie) and Newt are twins. There's actually a tragic piece of backstory for Newt's limp that I won't talk about, in the books, which you can look up if you'd like.

    Rare to see such a reasonable, level-headed character in a YA adaptation. The fact that Thomas tells him "I screwed you over," and his immediate reaction is "Yeah, but you're different now" is just so great. It makes me f e e l e m o t i o n s

    The reason why the grievers came in during the night, with all the walls opening, is to get Alby. It's because after he was stung, he rememered things which WCKD did not want the other gladers to know/remember. And due to Alby being immune, they would have taken him out of the maze and studied his brain in ways you will see in The Scorch Trials. After they got Alby, they took him and the grievers left.

    I've never thought about that. I always guessed it was due to the trigger happening with Teresa arriving after killing the griever. You also have the doors staying open when they first discover the exit. This is a bit of a hot take and due to the difference in the movie and the book we can never be sure what is exactly right or wrong

  • @mettaton4876
    @mettaton4876 Жыл бұрын

    Fun fact: In the book instead of the walls staying open and the Grievers going on a massacre right away, instead they'd pick off one person every night until they finally tried to escape. Obviously that'd be harder to make interesting in the time frame of a movie, but I kinda prefer what the book did

    They could have pull it off if they wanted to, they did great with the suspense as it is in the movies. I still remember the fear reading the book when they are all in the tower as quite as posible in complete darkness while they hear the grievers climbing it and moving around just waiting for anyone to be taken in a flash. Oof **shivers** such a great sequence.

    I actually really liked your guys’ take on Gally because a lot of people just straight up hate him but he does have a lot of rights to be mad at times at Thomas. And you can’t even blame him for chuck because he was stung. He would’ve never killed chuck if he wasn’t stung. Newt is probably my favourite character in this series of movies from beginning to end because he’s just so good, he’s nice, he takes a chance in Thomas, he’s smart. There are a five books in The Maze Runner series. The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure, The Kill Order and The Fever Code. While Maze Runner, Scorch Trials and Death Cure are the main story, Kill Order and Fever Code are prequels as they're based on when the Flare first struck and Thomas's life before the maze. Also at 52:28, the man sitting on the right to Ava Paige (on the left of the screen) is James Dashner, the author of The Maze Runner books.

    Newt is the best! Very bestfriend material. Gally is something else. The movie sets him up as kind of villain-y and antagonistic but his arguments are actually sound. He's intense but in such situations, his reactions are actually reasonable especially from his perspective. As an audience who've spent more time with the main characters, I know better so his reactions can be kind of annoying, but if I were in his shoes only knowing what he knows, I'd be mistrustful and extra cautious to the point of paranoia too. In any case, this is perhaps one of the better YA adaptations I've seen in that there's not much romance. In a dystopian setting, I feel like most survivors would be too preoccupied with dealing with the dangers around them to be lovey-dovey with someone..but with teens, I guess it could make sense.

    i made my dad read this series when i was a teenager, and we would go see the movies in theatres together and compare them to the books. i remember that the first one is actually very close to the book, but after that it definitely starts diverting- sometimes in small but story-altering ways. one example from this first one is the fact that it rains. in the first book, they very specifically state that it NEVER rains in the glade. not sure why they changed that lol, it would've been very easy to just... not have it rain. after the 2nd or 3rd we decided to just enjoy it as its own story rather than as an adaptation of the books. while the general plot stays the same, i think the films lose a loooot of the nuance and moral ambiguity that made the books so interesting to me (which, tbf, isn't uncommon with movies that come from books). regardless, i still enjoy the movies quite a bit! i think the casting fits all the characters so well, and the films are also visually very beautiful. each installment has kind of its own color scheme. the first is obviously very green, and the others are also very distinct! i like that the movies really ran with that aspect.

  • @ThatBlackPiano

    The movies are based on a book series and came out around the same time as The Hunger Games series (2008/2009). The Maze Runner series was only made into a trilogy because the actor that played Thomas hurt his leg during filming and had to heal for a LONG time then had to spend an even longer time doing physical therapy. That’s why there was such a huge pause between the movies when they came out. The studio considered releasing a 4th movie, but the cast voted and decided not to. They liked the part who the story stopped in the 3rd movie.

    Prequel book spoiler alert ‼️ In the prequel book that was released after the series we actually find out that Thomas worked with WICKED to build the maze. WICKED had all these kids with them and were studying them. He was friends with like Newt, Gally, Alby and the others before the maze and they didn’t know about it and they were sent in the first lot of people into the maze (they first sent a bunch of kids and then one every month). When they found out that their memories would be taken away and that Thomas was behind it they all felt betrayed and was mad at him. When Gally and the other guy were stung by the grievers they didn’t get all their memories back but they remembered hating Thomas and that he did something bad to them and that’s why they hate and attack him. The prequel book is actually really good and adds so much to the story

Beautiful Creatures wasn't that good of an adaptation but I wouldn't mind seeing your reaction. There are 3 movies based on the first 3 books but the author did release a 4th book, I believe it was sometime after the first adaptation bc when I bought the book the release date was advertised on the cover.

But seriously these movies (in my opinion) are awesome. I only watched these movies myself a month or two ago and I fell in love with them immediately. I’m actually in the middle of reading the series right now. Almost finished Scorch Trials. You guys seriously NEED to read the books. I know a lot of people probably commented this exact same thing, but the books actually explain a lot more of the story than shown in the movies. The end scene was also very different from the movie. I won’t elaborate because (spoilers) if you decide to read the books. I am absolutely STOKED for your reactions to Scorch Trials and Death Cure!! James you called it Maze Runner 2 😭. It has a name 😂. The maze runner saga is just beautiful. The script, the performances and the characters. Although this movie has many inconsistencies despite how good it is!I find it very unbelievable that Gally reached the final scene with no idea what the maze was like before... he literally knew nothing about it and they decided to put it in the final scene.

  • @sofialu226

    In the books is differnet though, in the books one day Gally just desappears from the Glade and is not seen again until the end. He was nowhere to be found, and if I rememeber correctly everyone thought he lost his mind and went into the maze to die or something. Then we see him again at the end with a Dagger (not a gun) acting all weird and such to then throw the dagger at Thomas, but Chuck gets in the way diying. Then Thomas looses it and jumps at Gally strangling him and then puching him so hard and so may times that Gally's face disfigures looking almost dead. Side note about Gally's character: In the books Gally was stung once a long time before and remembered Thomas having something to do with their situation, thats also one of the reasons he had such a personal thing against him. He told him that at some point. And if you are wondering why was he fine if he was stung, is because in the books the same Two suerums Theresa had in the movie, were sent each month with all the supplies.

    Y’all should definitely finish the rest of the trilogy. The great thing is that the director didn’t split the last book into 2 movies. He didn’t believe that the last book needed 2 movies to flesh out the plot so he left it at one movie. And he didn’t want to break the last book up just to make more money. He cared more about the storytelling than the money. So all three movies are incredible and action packed.
