talking about the accents, mallory maedke (swing for boylen, seymour, and howard), she did an instagram story for questions and someone asked why they dont do accents and basically toby and lucy said they really just want this cast to be the /chicago/ cast. and mallory also said they just genuinely suck at accents

I feel like people don't realize that these are two different productions with two different casts. It's very sad because this cast is magnificent and people don't realize how hard it is to fake a British accent. Especially constantly. While singing. For over an hour.

while also doing a pure cardio workout (every cast agrees that the dancing is pure cardio all the way through) so yeah having them try to do a different accent would have been the worst idea ever

hi! chicagoan who's seen both productions twice here: 1. the reason boleyn cuts in is bc of accenting. abby(seymour) has a much different, unblendable accent faced against andrea(boleyn)'s accent 2. yes, britt(cleaves) sings "i'm the queen of the castle" up the octave! 3. the shakes(chicago shakespeare, where six is playing) has a gap between stage and audience. fire hazards and US regulations, so it's about two art rows. they can reach, but it's a gap alright 4. have you heard people from jersey trying to do a british accents? sorry but there's no way in god-forsaken hell that abby(seymour) could possibly do a british accent. plus, it adds a spin. i love both casts. any other comparison q's you can ask me, i'll try my best to answer.

One thing I do appreciate about the Chicago cast is that they say the full word "Six" at the end. Lol The Westend I always hear "Sick" "Sii".

To clarify, there’s a part in between the stage and the audience. You could fit another row there but it would be very cramped! I hope this helps

There is actually a megasix in which Adriana (Aragon) gives the mic to a guy in the audience for them to sing, it was amazing.

Concerning the bass... I play guitar so Im not sure if its a different term for bass... but what the bass was doing was adding fills. She played the same notes as the west end but added a few more notes. It sounds a bit weird but its nice and different :)

yeah she was doing slap bass! it’s basically what most players do in funk and disco- it’s basically fills with a slap tone to it

Yes, we love Samantha Pauly! (Howard) but I'm sad she's gone now. She is going to be in the upcoming London production of Evita though.

I wish the Chicago cast had their own costumes tho :/ That's what I really loved about six is that all the actresses have their own unique costumes and I wished they continued that into the Chicago performances

I know this is a year late but I’m here anyway lol IMO, I think it’s only fair they get the same costumes as west end or other casts. Since the touring, bliss, Australian, and more have gotten the same costumes I think it would only be fair haha Also, the alternates for this cast do have their own costumes as normal so yeah!

I've been to the Chicago show, there's a fair gap between the stage and front row, but when Anna of Cleves gets someone in the front row to dance during Get Down they've got a lot of room.

This reply is so late, just now watching this video, but I saw the Chicago version earlier this month, in August, and it was really beautiful. I was right up near the stage and it was so astounding. All of the queens are so stellar with eye contact and little waves and smiles, over all very personable. During Get Down, Cleves actually encouraged a little boy to get up and dance with her in between the seats and the stage, it was very funny! The lack of an accent didn't bother me, I feel like, if they had tried to replicate a British accent, it would have taken away from their natural talents. All of them have such beautiful voices, and quirky personalities with their normal voices. If you do ever get the chance to see the American cast, it is so worth it, they are amazing!

They do grab a phone/camera in the front after Megasix after their bows! But yes theirs about 2 feet from the stage to front row.

I love how Andrea (Boleyn) and Britt(Cleves) are both 4”11 and Abby is like 5’7 so Andrea and Britt look even shorter then they are!

The syncopated slap-bass solo that Stacy does is meant to be more ~bluesy~ since Chicago is known as one of the historical hubs for classic blues music. Some of the fill notes that another commenter mentioned are "blue notes" - off-key accents meant to add color to the melody

Just to address the accenting thing it's because Matilda specifically takes place in Britain and this is a pop concert with no set location. If the accents were accurate cleaves would be german and multiple of them would be spanish.

the only things i don’t like that i’ve seen from Chicago Six (i haven’t seen it live) are Jane Seymour’s voice (at least in the time they sang Six on the news) that they don’t overlap between Seymour+Boleyn during Megasix, and the weird bass solo

I agree with that particular performance mentioned, but Abby (Seymour) has a lovely voice

I find it weird that Seymour and Boleyn don’t overlap, something must of happened over the course of the show’s previews because in their first megasix they overlap, so they must of changed it. I think it has something to do with Abby's accent not fitting well with Andrea's. Abby has a slight Midwestern accent and Andrea has a slight Canadian accent and they sound a bit weird singing over each other.

I saw this cast in Chicago and it’s fantastic.

In the broadway cast, instead of “ get your phones out your gonna wanna film this “ it’s “ everyone clap your hands “ because in NY you cant legally record broadway shows. But their are a few videos of broadway mega six just not front row, maybe you could react to the broadway cast mega six?

This is why we love Sam Paulo and her little shindig of the Harlem shake. Parr sometimes does the thing. I personally loved the Chicago cast I saw them 2x with both the Howard’s. they’re all so sweet and could talk for hours especially cleaves (Brittany Mack). Mallory meadke (an alternate) said someone asked if they should do British accents and they said no.

Legit same reaction to the bass solo every single time! I just don’t think it matches at all! The stage has a big gap between stage and first row (first Chicago is equal to third arts row) so they can’t really do that for Parr at the end.

If you have a chance, I 100% recommend checking out the mega-six from Edmonton! It’s the same cast from their pre-broadway (mini) tour OR their broadway launch party! I think you’ll see a lot of what you missed from west end has settled back in. These ladies are gunna kill in it NY.

We went and Parr does go right up to my camera. You are spot on with all your comments except this one part. Feel free to check out our front row (sams last performance) you’re adorable!!!!

I've seen a few musicals on broadway and the reason there is a gap is because of the pit and how most musicals have a band in the pit.

imo i think it's pretty cool how lucy and toby have the six casts just do their normal accent because a big part of the show is letting the actresses put their own spin on their queen :)

HI Bryony! I see that this video was posted a year ago. The Chicago cast did go to all sorts of places, even into Canada! I was so excited to see them when they came to Edmonton, Canada! I would definitely go again
