I listen to Ren everyday! I've never in my life been so amazed by a human being. His intelligence is very high, therefore he's a lyrical genius. A musican, rapper ( mad rap skills too)!!! Which I personally LOVE❤😊 REN has been through so much with his health after being misdiagnosed for many years . He found out that he has Lyme disease that he is still going through treatments for. The medications made him have psychosis at times and made him physically ill, sometimes bedridden. ** I had recommended that you check him out,and am so glad that you did. Thank you! Ren is very humble, and actually watches alot of reactors, and goes live while watching it. Extremely different type of artist for sure! 🙏 I've never written such a long comment about a artist before. Lol I cannot emphasize enough how much this man has impacted myself & so many others. WELOME TO THE RENIASANCE!❤🤘✌️💪

Welcome to the Ren "Rabbithole". You say you "don't even know what genre of music he is"? He is his own genre! He does it all: rock, rap, ska, bard, etc... He plays guitar, piano and a couple other instruments. He's an incredible lyricist and song writer. Him and his bandmates The Big Push are fire! His collabs with Chinchilla and Eden Nash are fantastic.

When Ren was about 19 years old, he was working with Sony toward his big breakthrough, but he became so ill he realized he couldn't fulfill his contract and they mutually decided to go their own ways. He went years misdiagnosed as a mental illness while the pain became so debilitating he would spend up to 23 hours a day in bed and eventually started having psychosis. Finally he got the right diagnosis - Lyme's disease, but the disease had been untreated for so long he suffered long-term damage. Now, at 33 years old, he's been receiving highly specialized treatment in Canada since January and will probably be there until October (with breaks to go home) trying to fully find the damage, repair what they can, and prevent it from flaring up again. As you go through his back-catalog, this information will explain a lot. Ren pre-recorded several videos to be released periodically while he's getting his treatment. His cinematographer just arrived in Canada a week or two ago and they're shooting some videos right now. He's flying back to the UK for a few weeks (with the doctors' permission) and shooting another video. Keep an eye out for new releases. Since Ren is completely independent he's free to do whatever songs he wants and doesn't have to stick to a genre for radio play or commercial interests. He tried to stick to the rap/hip-hop genre so his latest album would be cohesive, so a lot of his latest songs are rap, but you should check out his duets and older stuff for his singing. He was also in a band called "The Big Push" who would perform on the streets of Brighton. Enjoy your journey.

Can't wait to see you go down the Ren rabbit hole. I am a musician myself and came across this guy a few months ago. A breath of fresh air in an industry that has been kind of stagnant. He never ceases to amaze me not only with his different abilities but his connection to his craft and his hardships are overflowing in what he produces. Then if that isn't enough, he does most of his videos "live" and in one take. His story telling will keep you mezmorized and invested emotionally. Enjoy!!

[Intro] Ooooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh [Verse 1] Hi there Ren It's been a little while Did you miss me? You thought you’d buried me, didn't you? Risky… 'Cause I always come back Deep down you know that Deep down you know I'm always in periphery Ren, aren't you pleased to see me? It's been weeks since we spoke, bro, I know you need me You’re the sheep, I'm the shepherd Not your place to lead me Not your place to be biting off the hand that feeds me Hi Ren, I’ve been taking some time to be distant I’ve been taking some time to be still I've been taking some time to be by myself since my therapist told me I'm ill And I've been making some progress lately, and I've learnt some new coping skills So I haven't really needed you much, man I think we need to just step back and chill Ren, you sound more insane than I do You think that those doctors are really there to guide you? Been through this a million times Your civilian mind is so perfect at always being lied to Okay, take another pill, boy! Drown yourself in the sound of white noise Follow this ten-step program, rejoice! All your problems will be gone! Fucking dumb boy Nah, mate, this time it's different man, trust me I feel like things might be falling in place And my music's been kinda doing bits too Like I actually might do something great And when I'm gone, maybe I'll be remembered For doing something special with myself That's why I don't think that we should talk, man 'Cause when you're with me, it never seems to help You think that you can amputate me? I am you, you are me, you are I, I am we We are one, split in two, that makes one, so you see: You got to kill you if you wanna kill me I'm not left over dinner, I’m not scraps on the side Oh, your music is thriving? Delusional guy! Where's your top ten hit? Where's your interview with Oprah? Where are your Grammy's Ren? Nowhere! Yeah, but, my music's not commercial like that I never chased numbers, statistics or stats I never write hooks for the radio They never even play me, so why would I concern myself with that? But my music is really connecting And the people who find it respect it And for me, that's enough ‘Cause this life's been tough so it gives me a purpose I can rest in Man, you sound so pretentious! Ren, your music is so self-centered No one wants to hear another song about how much you hate yourself, trust me You should be so lucky, having me inside you to guide you, remind you to manage expectations Provide you perspective, that thing you neglected, I get it You wanna be a big deal, next Jimi Hendrix? Forget it Man, it's not like that Man, it's just like that, I'm inside you, you twat! No, it's not, man you're wrong, when I write I belong Let me break the fourth wall by acknowledging this song: Ren sits down, has a stroke of genius He wants to write a song that was not done previous A battle with his subconscious, Eminem did it Played on guitar? Plan B did it! Man you're not original, you criminal, rip-off artist The pinnacle of your success is stealing other people's material Ren, mate, we've heard it all before Oh, "She sells seashells on the sea shore" Fuck you! I don't need you, I don't need to hear this 'Cause I'm fine by myself, I'm a genius! And I will be great, and I will make waves, and I'll shake up the whole world beneath us That's right, speak your truth! Your fucking god complex leaks out of you It's refreshing to actually hear you say it! Instead of downplay it “Ugh, music is all about the creative process and if people can find something to relate to within that, then that's just a bonus” Fuck you! I'ma fucking kill you, Ren Well, fucking kill me, then! Let's fucking have you, Ren I'ma do it, watch me prove it, who are you to doubt my music? ‘Cause I call the shots, I choose if you die Yeah, I call the shots and so I choose who survives I'll tie you up in knots when I lock you inside [Bridge] News flash I was created at the dawn of creation I am temptation I am the snake in Eden I am the reason for treason Beheading all kings, I am sin with no rhyme or reason Sun of the morning, Lucifer, Antichrist Father of lies, Mestophales Truth in a blender, deceitful pretender The banished avenger, the righteous surrender When standing in front of my solar eclipse My name, it is stitched to your lips, so you see I won't bow to the will of a mortal, feeble and normal You wanna kill me? I'm eternal, immortal I live in every decision that catalysed chaos That causes division I live inside death, the beginning of ends I am you, you are me, I am you, Ren! [Verse 2] Hi Ren, I’ve been taking some time to be distant I’ve been taking some time to be still I’ve been taking some time to be by myself and I've spent half my life ill But just as sure as the tide starts turning Just as sure as the night has dawn Just as sure as the rainfall soon runs dry when you stand in an eye of a storm I was made to be tested and twisted I was made to be broken and beat I was made by His hand, it's all part of His plan that I stand on my own two feet And you know me, my will is eternal And you know me, you've met me before Face to face with a beast, I will rise from the east, and I'll settle on the ocean floor And I go by many names also Some people know me as hope Some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope And you know how I know that I'll prosper? 'Cause I stand here beside you today I have stood in the flames that cremated my brain and I didn't once flinch or shake So cower at the man I've become When I sing from the top of my lungs That I won't retire, I'll stand in your fire Inspire the meek to be strong And when I am gone, I will rise In the music that I left behind Ferocious, persistent, immortal like you We’re a coin with two different sides [Outro] Ooooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooooh... [Spoken Outro] When I was seventeen years old, I shouted out into an empty room, into a blank canvas that I would defeat the forces of evil And for the next ten years of my life I suffered the consequences... With autoimmunity illness, and psychosis As I got older, I realized there were no real winners and there were no real losers in psychological warfare But there were victims and there were students It wasn’t David versus Goliath, it was a pendulum Eternally swaying from the dark to the light And the more intensely that the light shone, the darker the shadow it casts It was never really a battle for me to win, it was an eternal dance And like a dance, the more rigid I became, the harder it got The more I cursed my clumsy footsteps, the more I struggled So I got older And I learned to relax, and I learned to soften, and that dance got easier It is this eternal dance that separates human beings from angels, from demons, from gods And I must not forget, we must not forget, that we are human beings

Music is the place that we go to to speak about the things we cannot formulate the words for. It is the epitome of self reflection. I'm a musician who is also suffering with chronic illness as Ren is as well. He was diagnosed with Lyme disease after it had gone misdiagnosed for years! He felt his body dying, and it left him bed ridden. He had a contract with Sony Records as he has been around for a while but has just recently blown up everywhere. It was that illness where Ren could no longer fulfill his side of the agreement with Sony and they parted ways. I highly suggest watching The Tale Of Jenny & Screech (Full)

For REN, this was truly his reality. Misdiagnosed with Lyme disease for 7 years by conventional doctors who deemed him mentally ill, but when patients are experiencing neurological symptoms, they very often become misdiagnosed. Lyme disease can present itself as many neurological conditions including Acute Transverse Myelitis[3], Ptosis[4], Seizures, and Chronic Fatigue[1] and these symptoms can be often misdiagnosed or deemed psychosomatic. Second is dealing with the symptoms of Lyme neuroborreliosis, these neurological symptoms often leave patients feeling drained and debilitated as they begin losing their quality of life. Over time, patients find themselves unable to do the things they love as they struggle to get ahead of their progressing symptoms.

Great reaction. It's amazing seeing someone 'meet' Ren this way. He has a big catalog that crosses most genres. If you go down the Ren rabbit hole, the Renegades will show up for it. We are very partial to him and he is pro reactors feeling that they are putting his music out there which draws their following to him and his to them. He is a singer, rapper, beatboxer, writer, producer and a self taught multi-instrumentalist. He has been in 2 bands, Trick the Fox when he was younger and more recently, tho broken up now; The Big Push. I could give you a list of recommendations as long as my arm, so I'll give you just a really old one that's fun; Love Music pt1,a not as old deep one; Hold On, and a new one that will give you a tour inside our boy's twisted mind; Animal Flow.

keep going with Ren. Watch the Tale of Jenny and Screech (full). Then The Huger, Illest of Our Time, Chalk Outlines, How to Be Me, Ocean, any and all of his busking videos, Blind Eyed... honestly, just throw a dart at a list of Ren songs, and you will have picked a winner. I have not heard a single meh song from him. Everything has been great. I'd also like to point out I'm a 43 year old metalhead and you can't get farther away from my perfered form of music, than this. Yet I will go out of my way to listen to Ren.

"Beyond delighted" is an excellent description for how I felt watching your reaction. I've watched… an excessive number of reactions to this video (as for me it's a way to recapture how amazed I felt seeing it for the first time), and yours is one of the best I've seen. Hopefully I'll get to see you react to more of the Ren bardcore.

The greatest all around artist of our times - he writes his lyrics and songs, he's a multi-instrumentalist, he's an actor, he directs these videos, he raps and produces his own beats - and he's fully independent. Everything he does is just him and his friends. He has been truly sick for more than a decade, and misdiagnosed and mistreated for most of that time, which multiplied his illness ten-fold. He is now in Canada for a year receiving proper treatment. He looks healthy now, but seeing him look like a frail 13 year old when he was in his mid-20s is shocking. He has come a long way. And he's just getting started. And so are you. Ren has so many great songs waiting for you, and so many more surprises.

Greetings. Come join us travelling along the Ren Rabbit Hole. You won't regret it. I am certain others from this pathway have started speaking about Ren in detail. Listing his catalog, detailing his personal history. Just pick from the list as a title grabs your attention. In addition to Ren, Look up his busking, alone and with his band "The Big Push". Care to go further back, look for those very few videos with the band Trick the Fox. Want to shed tears... seek out the rare vlog Ren did during the thick of it. Though there should be more, i have yet to find more then one.

Ren has so many different styles of music in his repertoire, I know you'll find so many things you'll like. Maybe the street performance with Ren and Chinchilla, there are two and both are wonderful, maybe you like rap: The Hunger, heartbreaking: Chalk outline or How to be me (both live please, sooooo good). Him and his Band The Big Push: Watch out (original video or live - both are excellent). What more can I say, this cave is deep and full of treasure! Greetings from Germany Birgitt 👍🤝👍😀

I like that your reaction video before this one was Tom MacDonald "Best Rapper Ever" and then up jumped on "Hi Ren" because it's the same idea, battle with their inner self doubt/demons/subconscious but done so different creatively! It's a great contrast! Tom and Ren are 2 of my absolute favorite artists and they will both blow your mind because they don't have a formulaic sound, every song from each of them sounds completely different! You also picked 2 artists with fans that are so loyal and will do whatever they can to help more people find their music and will support anyone that is reacting to their music. And they are both independent and both try to get a message out and open people's eyes and minds to make changes to better this world! I'm down for the ride for both!! Let's go!

I have to be honest, I've watch most of the reactions to this song, and to see when it hits someone the same way it hit me, is (to me) the best part of the experience. That's kind of the point though, we are not alone. "I suffer, therefore I am....but I will not relent,... and I will learn to ride the waves." This is a universal human experience, the inner dialogue and struggle. This is a masterpiece of performance art, it connects people. It's quite literally IMPORTANT....and unfortunately, much needed in today's world.

I wrote this introduction to Ren when I first discovered him earlier this year, as there wasn’t a Wikipedia entry for people to look him up prior to March 2023. I have posted this info to every “Hi Ren” reaction I have come across since, and I hope it will be of some use to the uninitiated. “Hi Ren” is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered over 13 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. In the case of "Hi Ren" it took four takes, all live in the room, to get the footage he wanted. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of Ren’s songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren is an independent artist/singer/songwriter/busker from Brighton, UK. He plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern-day bard; he calls his music “bardcore.” Ren’s earliest recordings on KZread are from his time in a band called “Trick The Fox,” consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren’s onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is “The Mash Up.” Ren’s trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master’s class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me,” “Sexual Healing,” “One Dance/Drunk in Love”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, in particular his song “Fire,” just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right Here, Right Now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” "Hold On," “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake),” his recent release "The Illest Of Our Time," and his latest song “Animal Flow,” both the full production and the live acoustic version. Ren's performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned It /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon/No Diggity,” “Feeling Good/Trouble So High/Masterblaster (Jammin'),” “Latch,” “Wild Thoughts/Crazy in love (Live Session),” “Same Old Situation (Live, feat. Ren),” “Improvising Around Stevie Wonder,” “What Went Wrong” Part I&II) are definitely a must. Also, his collaborations with Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), Orlean ("Jessica"), his former bandmate Romain Axisa (“French Song”), are all great. Last but not least, Ren’s busking sessions with Liv Sangster are awesome. I recently discovered that Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. "The Big Push" (Ren Gill, Gorran Kendall, Romain Axisa, and Glen Chambers) busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are amazing and well worth checking out. All but the drummer sing lead vocals at times. Ren, Gorran, and Romain all play multiple instruments. Ren plays acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, and drums. Gorran plays acoustic, electric, bass guitar, and harmonica. Romain plays acoustic, electric, bass guitar, ukulele, and piano. They are each incredibly gifted artists, and their solo work is completely different from each other. Well worth checking out. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," "Watch Out," “War Pigs,” “Roadhouse Blues,” "My Generation," “Paint It Black,” "An Englishman in New York," “Bongo Bong” are awesome. On “These boots are made for walking’/Satisfaction/Everybody,” “Praise You” (Fatboy Slim Cover), “What Kind Of Woman Is This,” all three take a turn singing. The songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. The band, at least for the time being, performed their last official busking session and gave their last concert in September of last year (2022) due to the fact that Ren was leaving for Canada to undergo specialized medical care and surgeries for his multiple health issues. In anticipation of his stay in Canada, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. He released “Sick Boi” and “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” which is another masterful work. Ren released his song, “Illest Of Our Time,” on his birthday, March 29. His newest release, "Animal Flow," is out now in two versions, a full production music video, and a live, one-take acoustic version. I still fail to understand how Ren's YT channel has less than 1 million subscribers while his videos have garnered millions and millions of views!?! What is wrong with people? I guess it is a sign of our times; this is a "me, me, me" society, and people just want to consume, unwilling to give back even as little as giving a video a "like" and subscribing to an artist's channel.
