The fall of Red Skull is called Uncertain Doom... it is a trope usually used so that the author may bring the character back in case it seems necessary...

The whole reason for him going on tour was solely to set up / justify his costume for the most part. His costume is super ridiculous, no matter how you try to justify it. But they try to organically get you from the silly costume with the older shield shape, to the battle costume with the round / vibranium shield. In a way, it was a very effective technique by the screen-writers.

You know the reason cap gets frozen is because in the comics when world war 2 was over in real life they didn't want to use him anymore. So they had him sacrifice himself as a way to end his story. Then 20 years later in real time Stan Lee wanted to use him again and just had him unfreeze and came up with the really cool dilemma of him in the modern world. And as time passes that becomes way more complex as 75 years is much different than the 20 years it used to be because it was linked to real time.

i always liked this movie. i think the reason they say they dont need him is because they had been planning on a team/whole unit of super soldiers and just one guy didnt seem like enough. but i do think they should have used him.

Until Infinity War gave us the canon answer, I thought Red Skull had been absorbed by the Infinity Stone. I liked it better when I saw him in Infinity War having been transported to a place where there was an Infinity Stone but one that he could never touch.

No, the performer-turn was set up very nicely. There's the whole push for war bonds at this time, and the economically-minded senator was already introduced and privy to what was going on.

when it first came out, it was one of those movies that most people were like "ok, i guess? some definite charm but a little hokey" but then really enjoyed it on a 2nd watch or just after more of the movie had come out. the avengers and the other 2 CA movies really make the first one even better retroactively since he had such great character progression through the series so it's a lot of fun to go back and see how he started out. the tone and style are very intentional to match the era a bit more
