I’ve combed out locs many times, using many different methods. The best method I’ve found is saturate the dry loc with Vaseline, and gently comb with a fine tooth metal comb. The loc practically slides out, and you get less breakage, also your hands aren’t numb like they are when you use water and conditioner. I combed my daughters locs out with this method and she ended up with healthy tailbone length hair! Give this method a try and see if it works for you!

@@justov3049 her locs were about 12 inches long, she had been loc’d for 3 years, each loc took about 7-10 minutes to take down. The timing is dependent on the length of the hair and time the hair was loc’d.

Locs are for life. These young individuals don’t know how to commit, they are very uneducated about locs and the journey, they also begin thinking their hair will look like the pictures they saved . If you don’t start the journey with your own look and over thinking it and being a product junkies then you will not love or enjoy locs. It takes patience and understanding, and commitment.

@@redlocculturetalk a lot of assumptions being made over hair. 😂 Some people comb their locs out simply because they want a different look. I change my hair because I don’t want to look back at my photos over the span of 10+ years and look exactly the same. 😂 never testing my limits to see what other styles I can pull off. NOTHING is permanent especially hair. You can change it at any time or go back to it. One girl said she simply didn’t like being mistaken as a boy…the second one was a REALLY young child maybe 4 years old. His parent probably gave him locs from birth and he wants to see his real hair for the first time ever since locs weren’t his choice. People really OVERTHINK hair this is obsession!! You don’t have a “lack of commitment” problem simply n for changing ur hair and it doesn’t mean your just too young and immature. Stop overthinking it’s JUST HAIR.
I combed out my locs after a year I'll let my hair grow for a few months then put locs back in the end of the year 🤞🏾

@@deljean yea I definitely have a plan for my new locs. I talked about it with my loctician and she seemed on board with my plan and I'll be rocking a new style as well. I have vids about my locs on my channel and I a playlist.
I combed my locs out in 2 weeks. I had 132 locs for 1.5 years. I used a rattail comb and a safety pin for tiny knots, conditioner water, and a thick oils at the roots to get the lint out at the roots. I actually retained a ton of hair. It was ridiculous lol. My arms will never forgive me! But I'm happy getting my 4c natural hair back
Having locs is a hairstyle. Growing locs is a lifestyle.
Thanks for teaching me about hair types. I didn't even know that was a thing. That helps a lot since I was the one wavy frizzy dry kid among my family of straight haired people.
7:11 I routinely get box braids (in 2-3 month cycles) because I’m to lazy to manage my hair so I feel like I kinda understand the appeal of locks
One thing I heard from a friend who had dreads was to use oils! Not conditioner because like you said it can make it tougher to pull through.
Thank you so much for making people aware. I've tried several times to explain to people that you can comb out your dreads and how to do it and they act like I'm being ignorant..no additional research or questions asked...? I've literally said they can just go and look up a video (like yours.) Like if everyone would rather chop their hair off be my guest. :)
At the start of the video he said “why are people doing this? 😫😫” but he’s helping ActDaVerse comb out his dreads and he combed out his own dreads last year 💀💀💀
I've combed out my locs. 4 items: water, conditioner for slip, a rat tail comb and tons of patience😊
I combed out my last set of locs. Because the last person who retwist my locs used grease and it was stuck in my locs causing my face to breakout etc. So now I started with 2 strand twist and im currently 5months in. I'm honestly liking how they look now.

I certainly understand the difference. I started locs for this very reason. As an umpire I was outside a lot and very active so there was no use in going to a salon or relaxing my hair every day. I’m on my second set going on three years now and I don’t have to spend so much time with my semi free form. I do self maintenance but I just don’t twist my locs. I prefer to crotchet them. I combined them into eight wicks and am growing back my shaved sides. I can style them up or down. It’s great!

I combed out my locks. I was very careful and patient. I used conditioner, water and a rat tail comb… my hair came out longer, it was still healthy and I didn’t have to get a lot of ends clipped

I had locs for 16 years. I literally did everything to try to comb and pic them out, but after It took me 45 minutes to get not even half way through my locs. After that I waited a few days and cut them off in the middle of the night.
Hair is NOT a “living organism”. That’s why you can cut or trim it with absolutely NO pain. Also you are correct when you say locs, Not dread locs. There’s nothing dreadful about our hair. So I am respectfully asking you all to stop saying dred, or dread locs. I am aware I can’t make you do anything, but it’s nice if you understand what I am saying. Thanks 🙏🏾

@ how can you tell me “ain’t nothing wrong” with it? That’s your opinion. There is NOTHING dreadful about OUR hair. You need to call things as they are. Perhaps yours is. And are you even Black? If not then you TRULY don’t need to be saying ANYTHING. A real Black person is not going to insist that their hair is “dreadful” once they understand that they should not be calling it dreadful. So please don’t tell me there’s nothing wrong. We have enough negativity spoken over us. Don’t need anymore.
This the same as combing out any kind of tangles - you always comb from the bottom up, never pull the tangles out from above.
It took me three months to comb out my locs. I had them for 15 years and I did them picking them out but combing once it was separated. I used some conditioner and water, a pick and comb. Once my curl pattern started to come back it shortened up a bit and it did and does try to loc back up still. It’s nice to have my natural hair again though.
I’ve done it many times as well. The best, IMO is to use a dentist pick type tool to “untwist” the hair. Usually, it opens up the lox and you’ll even find the bud intact ( well In my experience). Then , I comb each strand gently. I feel the constant combing is harsh for my stands.
ive combed mine out once, and am doing it a second time. ive just learned new things about how to deal with my hair and i want to keep those in mind as they grow. my hair is pretty long though, despite having cut it to detangle the first time, so i'm happy at least with the amount of hair ive retained
Seeing you laugh genuinely at your friend ActDaVerse really brightened up my mood before I sleep G 🙌🏽😂❤️🔥‼️
I had really long locs for 6 years and I combed them out and it took me a week straight to do it. That was 3 years ago, now I’m contemplating on getting them back
I started my locs 4 days ago and honestly watching u is my inspiration to keeping them
I’ve combed out a few really thick locs to match my thin locs its really satisfying tbh😂
My daughter and I combed out our dreadlocks. It turned out it was great. I have a 4c hair type. It took me 3 days.
I've had dreads for five years. Also much love your videos are Great!!
I had lots for all of 6 months before combing them out. I was missing my hair and ignorant to the fact that I could wear wigs or lace fronts if I wanted a different hairstyle. It took me a week and a half to comb out my hair. My cousin helped me also. I've been thinking of getting lots again. 😂

Yes, I've thought about it because I get bullied for having them. I make up this lie every time saying "I'm gonna comb them out soon..." little do they know their never going to see me soon... I'm moving to a different state, switching schools, and blocking all of their numbers! It's not like I have any social media to get tracked down... and I don't have anything with my real name on it except for Roblox... Either way if they say "Hey (my name) were have you been?" I can't say "Oh I live in (place I'm moving to)" NO! It's going to give me tags, delete the message... Hope you enjoyed that true story.

Man I think about it all the time but I have issues with scalp acne (not near as disgusting as it sounds) and it keeps me from going back to waves. I’ve had my locs now for 6 and a half years and I’ve grown to love them a lot. It started off as a self conscious thing because I was embarrassed by the sudden appearance of the scalp acne but now I can’t really imagine myself without them. Over the years I’ve combined some and I’ve done the side taper and then I’ve done the under cut and still going strong. I don’t see myself getting rid of them for a while.

I wasn't happy with my sections, so I went through combing them out 2x before I was happy and ready to add my extensions. Thank you for your help. I did use gel the first time.
