Closer is one of my favorite kpop songs of all time. It's the kind of song that the more you listen to it, the more you love it. Cause the first time I heard closer it didn't strike me as anything like totally amazing, but the more I listened to it, the more I grew to adore it.

I think Oh My Girl is my second favorite group in all of Kpop, their discography is so good and versatile, and all the members are so talented and fun and beautiful.

They’re amazing, gorgeous , talented and very smart… but I’m newer to them the last couple months… but do they do a lot of other styles? Most of what I’ve heard of them kinda sounds the same. Like the first three songs have very similar sounds.. and the 4th is a bit different but same genre… what songs would you say are showing more variety for them?

@@blarmy827 I would say it more comes from B-sides. They definitely have a signature sound which goes through their discography and especially their title tracks. I would say Remember Me is pretty different for them, that whole EP is great.

windy day is like one of the best gg songs ever to me lol i was so obsessed with it and made me stan immediately. the interesting song structure, perfect harmonies, banger 3 part chorus, gorgeous but slightly creepy mv vibe? its made for me

omg i just got into oh my girl about a week ago and they're already one of my favourite girl groups, their discography is incredible!!!

Also I know that B-sides are a long way away, but the Pink Ocean album has some of my favorite B-sides ever. I Found Love is probably my favorite Oh My Girl song, and Step By Step is an essential Oh My Girl track.

Yeah I never really understood Oh My Girl's MV's "Storyline" (if they even have one) they're mostly just very aesthetic and just really pretty to look at. They did initally start out with 8 members but JinE took a hiatus in 2016 due to anorexia but ended up formally leaving the group a year later. The last update I've heard of her, she was doing a lot better and is much happier now. Earlier this year the group's contract was up and all but Jiho chose to renew and stay with the company so she left the group.

The first girl from the Real Love MV is actually Seunghee 😉

I watched queendom because of lovelyz I dont care about oh my girl at first. But now they became my favorite of all. The members the story their hardwork and everything I love them.

The wind blowing is a metaphor for falling in love. Both love and the wind are forces of nature beyond our control. In Windy Day the girls are being hunted by love. Jiho, the girl in read with the pistol, represents nature hunting them down and causing them to fall in love.

I was a casual listener to OMG until I heard closer. Till this day Closer it's at my top 10 of best Kpop songs off all time. That song literally made OMG my ults.

The one in the red with the gun is former member, Kim Jiho, who left OMG in 2022. She was OMG’s visual, lead dancer, and lead vocal. During Queendom, Jiho is the member that came up with all the concepts for the group, that earned them #1. She was very aware of her group’s strengths and knew how to capitalize on them. OMG gained a huge following due to their success on Queendom. Jiho was largely responsible for those wins and her absence is a major loss to the group IMO. Jiho is pursuing an acting career under the name Gong Jiho to differentiate from another actress. The other member wearing red that you said you liked is Bae Yoobin (formerly called Binnie). She’s a sub vocalist in OMG and lead vocalist in the subunit OMG Banhana. Yoobin is known as a smartie in OMG, the most athletic, and along with Jiho and Arin, she is part of both OMG’s Maknae line and visual Bermuda Triangle.

Jiho is my bias and she is very missed but I hope you realize that saying she was 'largely responsible for their wins' is hugely disrespectful to all the contributions of the other members.

My favorite Oh My Girl song is The Fifth Season (SSFWL). I love their unique fairy and emotional concept that goes along with their songs and they were my favorite group in Queendom, they really showcased their talent in every aspect that a girlgroup needs. And yes, their latest comeback was the 2nd full album, they have many EPs, and unfortunately they only have 1 comeback per year.

This is a cultural reset!!!!!💅🫶🏽❤️‍🔥

I got into OMG during GP999 and I regret not getting into them earlier. Before (during SNSD hiatus) it's like you'll either become an OMG stan or Lovelyz stan (or both!) and I was the latter. But now listening to them, they're so good. I believe they have fairy concept. And YooAh is my bias! Can't wait to see your reaction to her solo stuff. 💖

There is a strong Faerie element to Oh My Girl. Even their light stick is the white stag (the white deer), which is ancient faerie lore (some say it’s the non human form of Gwyn ap Nudd, some that it’s a guide into the faerie world, or the wild hunt itself). Not every song or video references this but many do - especially the first three you chose here! But Oh My Girl are my favorite group not only for carrying these references but for having a good variety through their discography in title tracks and b-sides. I highly recommend checking out “Remember Me” and “Cupid”. They and GFRIEND are my two ultimates, with Oh My Girl holding the number one spot.

Mimi recently took part in a show called Second World, where the rappers of various girl groups got the chance to show off their Vocal talents rather than rap, the age range was really wide 15-34!

I recommend OMG b-sides Tropical Love and Stupid In Love for those who haven't heard.

If you like Oh My Girl you might like their company’s boy groups: B1A4 (2nd gen) and ONF (pronounced on and off; they are on hiatus rn but I highly recommend these guys omg) ONF was in road to kingdom which was the pre-Queendom version of the boy group version of Queendom, Kingdom.

and the album is absolutely nice.

Closer and Windy Day are magical and describe OMG's concept really well. Still my favorites of all their other tracks. Yes Secret Garden was their first win, even though OMG was already quite well-known at that time which is quite surprising. Fun fact, OMG's Yubin is a close friend of Dreamcatcher's Yubin (or, you know her as Dami).

I'm glad you like Yubin! love her personality and her voice. I feel she gets overshadowed by the other members but she is so talented in so many things! One of my favorites to listen to and watch. I actually recommend their earlier stuff like "Cupid" their debut MV and "Liar liar". I actually love "Coloring Book" despite it not being as successful in Korea. "Dun Dun Dance" is fun too. And yes their MVs are all weird or different. Now as far as guides.... I've seen are either 40-60 min or 3 min lol. Note: Since Yubin recently changed her stage name from 'Binnie' you might see that name in the guides. I hope to see more Oh My Girl content but I know your schedule is packed. 🙂

Interesting enough Closer track was actually intended to be a praise song not a k-pop song, but girls really liked the melody and wanted to get the song. Thats probably what plays into sad aspect of it, same with acapella choir part. Lyrics was written to fit fantasy, dreamy and cosmic feels. And even choreo formation is done in shapes of constellations. Thats what makes it very unique. For a storyline still not sure, but I remember theory of it been methaphore for growing up, or growing out of innocence something like that. They deffinetly didn't emphasize on Mimi's rap abilities in Queendom, it's kinda sad that they decide not to, cause she is so talanted. Her parts always so good in OMG songs. Her singing is also beautiful, but when she raps it just an amazing energy. Also she writes her rap parts herself💜 And everytime I see her in MVs she bias wreck me😂

8:22 Closer was a slow burn for sure for me, I did not playlist it at first but now it’s a truly iconic song that gets me every time

I never was into OMG or the genre of kpop they sang.....having said that I think Secret Garden is one of the best songs in kpop. It is filled with hope and innocence. And while I'm not really into the members of the group, Seunghee really stole my heart with her live solo performance of 2ne1's Ugly, which was heartbreakingly sad and felt intensely personal to her.

the one doing the ad lib and high note at the end of the secret garden song is seunghee one of the main vocalist , and on of the best vocalist in 3 generation i think 😊

Thanks for getting into Oh My Girl, they are one of my favorite GGs! Can I recommend Dolphin (music stage, the performance is a bit sexy, it's a viral dance) and Dun Dun Dance (the MV). Planet 999 had their trainees cover the Fifth Season and I'm sorry, they didn't manage to get anywhere near the original Oh My Girl version, especially if you see their music stage performance of that song - their vocals are so good, and of course you can't beat the group dynamics of seasoned veterans.

Closer was actually written as a US Christian rock song, the person they are getting closer too is God!

In my opinion there are unfortunately not any good guides out there for them as they're mostly known in Korea and don't really have any good international youtubers that upload content for them.
