    I'd show her 'Map of the Problematique', because the whole song is so intensive but Matt is singing very powerfully, but still peacefully. And there is an awesome piano line too.

    I don't know... There are definitely similiarities between Muse and Radiohead, especially Muse's early albums. But it's also very different, because I always found radiohead VERY boring and depressing and I absolutely love Muse and most songs get me pumped and strangely happy.

    You have to appreciate dark and emotionally heavy songs to like micro cuts. It's one of my favourite songs, but only because I understand the meaning of it. It was inspired by a nightmare that Matt had and therefore it is meant to emulate the feelings and emotions of a nightmare. So when you think about it, every part of the song fits together beautifully, the odd time signatures add confusion and strange drum patterns give the song a choppy feel -like it was cut up and stitched together, not unlike most dreams. The guitar also has a sort of dreamy tone, but the minor chords and the jarring bass guitar takes that feeling and completely inverts it into something creepy, like something is wrong. Then there's Matt's voice which on its own sounds unnatural and otherworldly which when combined with the rest of the music makes it all sound very scary -it gives you the feeling that something bad is coming, but you don't know what. Then the chorus comes and it's like a punch in the stomach, the monster comes out of the closet and the tone switches from unsettling to outright fear. Imo, the whole thing is a compositional masterpiece and it's really awesome to listen to it you like dark and twisted music, but I get that it's not for everyone.

  • @dinoschachten
    @dinoschachten6 жыл бұрын

    Just stumbled across this while listening to some Muse. You're both so likeable, I like how you appreciate the music without a lot of judgement. :) I think Matt's voice changed primarily in being more developed now. It might have shifted slightly as voices tend to do with age, but I think the main impression of his voice being higher back then comes from the fact that he really worked on his voice, now using his body volume better rather then pushing from the throat as most "natural" voices tend to do. I think that makes his voice more pleasant and epic than "back in the old days". :) He's definitely one of my favourite singers - especially of his resonant intensity especially in his high chest voice range. :)

    I enjoy your channel, especially because you love Muse. I'm 64 and have been into Muse for a long time. This has likely been said before, but Muse to me is a combination of Radiohead and Queen. I was lucky to see them before they got real big in the USA. They played in the Dallas area on Sept. 19, 2006, on the Black Holes tour. The theater had about 6,000 seats and I was right up front. Their equipment was appropriate for a much larger venue. IT WAS LOUD! lol. I'm happy I stumbled onto your stuff and am getting into Nightwalk, too.

    Uprising was the song that got me into Muse in 8th grade, and in 9th grade I listened to more of their music, which was when I really fell in love with them. Also, blackout reminds me of The Hunger Games all the time. Idk why tho XD. Plus, the handler is another favorite of mine

    her description of why matt's voice pairs so well with rock music is pretty much exactly why I got into them. I'd heard about Muse as a rock band for years but never listened to them because I just assumed that the singer's voice would be deep, rough, and gravelly, then one day when I actually DID hear Muse I was basically like "oh shit that's so much better than I expected" haha

    Muse, Radiohead and Coldplay (amongst others) were heavily influenced, vocally, by a guy called Jeff Buckley. The guy responsible for "Hallelujah" made famous by the first Shrek movie. A style I'm a huge fan of.

    My favorite version of Microcuts is the Wembley 2007 version one! And please show her: - Citizen Erased - Exogenesis part 3: redemption - Dead Star - Ruled by Secrecy - In your World - Assassin - Space Dementia - Muscle Museum - Hysteria - MK Ultra - Exo-Politics - Recess - Yes Please - Ashamed - Glorious - Easily - Stockholm Syndrom And more.. I just love them all, I saw them twice in Paris, first time for the 2nd law album and second time for the Drones album!

    Fun video! Great to spread the love of Muse beyond the singles (which, of course, are also great). I agree, it’s hard to find anyone that sounds like Muse. Closest I’ve heard to the theatrical and musical side is “Lillian” and “Deny It All” respectively by The Dear Hunter. Vocally, “Six Billion” by Nothing But Thieves. Love her open minded reactions and your enthusiasm.

    Really blow her mind, let her know that the Muse album The 2nd Law has a song on it called "The 2nd Law: Isolated Systems" where you hear a voice say "in an isolated system entropy can only increase." Then make her read the 2nd Law to the Conservation Laws of Thermodynamics, that is what it references and what that voice says is actually true and that is the 2nd law to that. Sort of shows how smart they actually are.
