Symptoms
In men, hair often begins to recede from the forehead.
Male-pattern baldness
Women tend to lose hair along the part.
Female-pattern baldness
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) is sometimes preceded by itchy or painful scalp.
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata)
Repeated stress on the hair can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.
Traction alopecia
t's becoming increasingly common for menopausal women to experience frontal fibrosing alopecia, in which the hairline moves back.
Frontal fibrosing alopecia
Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what's causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body.
Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:
Gradual thinning on top of head. This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting people as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have a broadening of the part in their hair. An increasingly common hair loss pattern in older women is a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia).
Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people lose hair in circular or patchy bald spots on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. Your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
Sudden loosening of hair. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning but is temporary.
Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.
When to see a doctor
See your doctor if you are distressed by persistent hair loss in you or your child and want to pursue treatment. For women who are experiencing a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia), talk with your doctor about early treatment to avoid significant permanent baldness.
Also talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your or your child's hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment.
People typically lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. This usually isn't noticeable because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss occurs when new hair doesn't replace the hair that has fallen out.

If Joe had 'just shaved it bro' at the age of 25 he would not have had the career that he's had. He'd likely not have got the job on the News Radio show in the 90's. He's a rich well known 50 year old on test and hgh - very different to a skinny 20 year old kid shaving their head.

@@JakeKent he was good looking guy before steroids and balding and o firmly believe it allowed him to become who he is. I mean im not gonna say its only because of the looks but in show business i think either you have it all or you're done.

people always think that a balding man should approach stuff with an "alpha machismo" mentality of *hey i dont care about your opinion, and im too macho to care about my looks, so im shaving my head because i am confident and i look cool regardless* but thats not really the case for everybody...a lot of people had missed career opportunities, had become the laughing stock, and had to go through a lot of "why are you bald? maybe its just stress" kind of people with their lives. thats why a lot of people are trying to find solutions to avoid such cirmustances

@@davidabkk yeah man. but its also prevalent elsewhere (though not as obvious, and outright mentioned).. the airline/hospitality industry, the sales industry, and even with teachers.. theres always jerk in the room who would point out someones bald. and in turn, becomes an inside joke.. this indirectly affects the level of respect and relationship of bald people among their colleagues, thus affecting their work ethic

I’m a Joe Rogan fan. I’m glad he spoke out about hair transplants not always turning out well for guys with aggressive hair loss. Shaving is good, hair systems are good. Choose something.

Hey Jake, thanks for this video. I had an FUT proceedure 20+ years ago and somewhat regret it, but I think the big takeaway here is that some dudes look good to great bald AND some guys don't. I applaud Joe for his position on this matter but it's pretty darned easy imo for him to make a case for rocking the bald look after the fact, don't you think? As you suggest, each of us need to make a call that we're happier with than a given alternative even if there ARE some vanity/insecurity issues involved. And let's be real...our culture (and many others of the human variety) is skewed toward a variable but certain kind of almost universal standard regarding the look and presentation of our physical outward selves. If you want to wear hair then go for it. The ladies DO. IT. ALL. THE .TIME. If not then don't but DO take your stand, do something definative and be okay with it...at least until you become comfortable with something else. Great video.

He talks about George Constanza's before and after with a hairpiece about 10 minutes into the video and how it's more acceptable for girls to have wigs/hair systems than men
