Re-Installation of the LHCb VELO A-Side

Ғылым және технология

See in 8 minutes how the A-side of the LHCb - Vertex Locator (VELO) has been re-installed on Tuesday January 30, 2024.
The thin aluminum (RF) foil that separates the detector modules from the LHC beam and vacuum was damaged last year by a vacuum problem, but has now been completely replaced and this week the two super accurate pixel detectors were successfully re-installed.
With only 5 mm, the VELO detector is the closest of all CERN detectors to the LHC beam.
Very soon we can start unraveling the mystery of matter and antimatter again to ultimately understand what happened in the first nanosecond (1 billionth of a second) of the Big Bang.
