The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is the motorcycle that created the behemoth that the RE today. Its popularity, despite the slow-moving pace of changes, has been how the company went from being a niche player in the premium class to the dominant force in the Indian premium market. From 2009 till now, the Classic 350 has driven sales, profits, R&D investments and lots more. And today is a super important day for Royal Enfield and Eicher Motors. Because today, the all-new Classic 350, featuring the Meteor’s J-Series 350cc engine, takes over from the old one. A legend’s reign ends. And the new King is crowned, hoping to continue its successful rule. Can it? Will it? Do the Honda CB350RS, Highness, Jawa, Jawa 42 and Benelli Imperiale have an opportunity to break the hegemony? Or is it business as usual with the Classic 350 firmly in the driving seat?

Honda has unveiled its Royal Enfield Classic 3550 rival - the new Honda H’ness CB350. The new Honda bike carries forward the legacy of the CB roadster series from yesteryears. Prices of the Highness CB350 start from around Rs 1.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which would make it dearer than the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Jawa by quite some margin. However, the new Honda H’ness CB350 justifies its pricing with features such as all-LED lighting, semi-digital instrument console and a traction control system.
The CB350 Highness will be available in two variants - DLX and DLX Pro. The DLX Pro variant gets dual-tone colour options and a unique voice-controlled smartphone connectivity system for navigation, music and call alerts. Powering the bike is a 348cc, air-cooled engine producing 21PS and 30Nm of torque. The classic Honda bike features a 5-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The Honda H’ness CB350 features a 15 litre fuel tank, dual-channel ABS and tubeless tyres. The Honda 350cc bike will compete against the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Jawa and the Benelli Imperiale.

Got mine Honda Hness CB350 Bs6 phase 2 a month ago. 750+ km clocked. Am loving it. Only thing I feel is tall gear issue as in video but slipper clutch makes it easy to do so. Also after listening to him telling two way gear lever and back gear is too far, I realised yes that is true. I have to pull my foot back to up shift. On the day I bought it, I rode it like a single sided gear lever. After filling in full petrol, I saw it had two way gear lever 😅

After shifting to CB350 1st month I struggled due to long gearing and 2nd month onwards no problem at all can ride it in chikpet n k r market roads without any problems. 😂

I have a size 11 foot. And, when I rode it for the first time, I was wondering why would such a refined machine miss this small point about gear shifter spacing. But then, I rode it with a riding boots on, and it fits right on spot! You can use the front shifter or both after wearing the boot due to the wider spacing.

While I agree with Pradeep Sir's bias towards RE. He likes a laid back ride. The CB350 isn't laid back. It's a powerhouse. It's not a retro or classic motorcycle, it's a neo-retro which essentially means that it looks like a retro bike but performs like a modern machine. That is the reason why Honda gave it a full LED lighting setup, slipper clutch, tubeless tyres with alloys and whatnot. I am not bashing RE here. They are known for their comfortable (at low speeds) and laid back riding style. Pradeep Sir here simply prefers more comfort over power, acceleration and loud exhaust. I have graduated from the super short stroke R15 (with 6 gears) and I still feel that the gearing on the CB is excellent, you just need to understand how it works. Once you get the hang of it, it's a piece of cake! I shift way less gears than any other motorcycles I have owned. You just need first 3 gears in the city. Also, if you have ridden the CB properly at low speeds, you would have noticed how bassy and heavy the engine sounds. That sound comes from the engine. It is butter smooth but still very bassy and rumbly. The REs, on the other hand, sound muted and unexciting to me. There is a reason why people used to slip on aftermarket exhausts on REs because their stock machines hardly produce heavy and beautiful notes (not talking about the older push-rod engines). To everyone who is confused between these two bikes, I would suggest you to get a test ride of both vehicles properly because both are good machines but different in characteristics.

I like people who aren't biased with the things they own, some people sang praises about their bikes and degrading other bikes with nonsense comparisons. Good to see it wasn't the case here. Ur smoothly driving it on 55kmph in 4th & when u put the 5th, the whole bike starts to vibrate in very unpleasant manner.. This 55kmph to 65kmph speed range is Achilles heel in that beautiful machine. What a gem engine has been wasted with a pedestrian gearbox.. Really Sad.. Another con is its mediocre headlight illumination..

Currently bike is in the service center for the past 2weeks waiting for fuel pump to be replaced. Replaced switch gear last time. Lockset needs replacement next. bluetooth connection is useless. Using your phone directly connected to bluetooth headset with phone mounted on handle works better.

Then I thought of buying activa thinking" saare scooters ek jaise hi to hote hai , upar se honda ka engine mil jaega". This was a big mistake. I got my activa . In 2 days time my back hurt so bad because of the ugly suspension. Even my wife hated it.I sold it in a week's time. Can you believe I sold my brand new activa in just 1 week. Now i am planning to get a retro. The statement that took out my mind from confusion of highness vs classic was " i felt like I am sitting on my sofa and riding". There are lot of biases here.. video should have been named why to choose RE over honda, manufacturers put in years of R&D they just dont slap engine on to a chassis and called it a day, and 300r engine on a cb350 chasis and wheel base is the most ridiculous thing i have heard in a while. The reason gearing is tall on honda is so that it can have a better top end, which J series sorely lacks.. it just feels sluggish on highway. Not to mention vibration are still there on the top end. Honda too has been making retro classic under same cb batch for decades its not a royal enfield template.

I am never into retor classic bikes but Honda Cb350 is the first classic bikes ilthat I rode for so long and I really loved bcs I like faster moving motorcycles but the retro bikes give you a laid back riding with has a vibe in itself and most of this have good low end Torque and the geaing is done in the same way. What makes the gearing on CB quite tall is it’s the slow moving traffic in Bangalore makes it a even worse and also some ppl love riding in a very relaxed manner as well. Not too engaging with the gears all the time but some like me who loves to down shift and go faster so I don’t mind. We need to understand that different ppl like different riding styles and how they want to do it. Its quite evident to me that CB350 was never Sr Pradeep's cup of tea and when the Classic met his minimum expectations on reliability and refinement, he went for it. I do feel that he's bought into the whole bullet vibe (i call it the bullet culture scam) hook line and sinker, and thats not necessarily a bad thing. Its just like being inside and enjoying the matrix ;) P.S: i say all this as a 40+ year old who used to ride the true bullet, a '95 CI, and who has gone through all stages of grief that the old bullets would offer. Really? Bullet culture scam? The bikes are critically renowned globally in countries where there is non existent Bullet presence. The entire CB350 exists because of Bullet and they even shamelessly tried to copy their name by calling it H'ness which everyone thinks is one of the worst names. Now they stopped to a new low by releasing another variant which looks exactly like Bullet. It seems its Honda which fell into the Bullet cult and is trying hard to impress his father The Bullet. I am saying coming from being an ex-Enfield hater to a fan. It's simply not everyone's cup of tea and that's OK.

@@aniruddham9950 Just like he explained the RE is much more relaxed in terms of ride quality, one don't have to downshift so often as compared to Honda, the engine struggles while pulling at 2nd at very low speed so you have to shift down to 1 (for cb350 hness & rs). After riding the new RE felt much happy if you like to just cruise at a particular speed but for Honda there are multiple shifts needed (due to tall gearing, best for highway rides in my opinion). I'll say if you are just stuck in these 2 then go to different dealerships and test ride as many times as you want and then make the move. Hope this will help.

Have you considered Suzuki V-Storm as a replacement for CB 350? It can go slow even in higher gears like RE and with top end performance (cruising speed of 110-120) , it is best for touring as well.

Vstorm is an amazing motorcycle no doubt but it's quite tall so may not be a comfortable city bike

I didn't have trust on royal Enfield any more, i brought Thunderbird 350 back in 2015 and already spent all most same amount of money on service as purchase new bikes. In 8 years I have to change the meter twice. Their break pad need to change every 9 month. And this is after servicing in their service station, poop quality of part and service. Break can stop working any time and they don't have any answers. I found other Thunderbird users are facing same problem. Even Enfield sell person also tell me that because of all reasons they stop making this bike, well it is not cheaper bike, they should have answers instead of just saying saying that we stop making it.
