RCT2 Ride Overview - Inverted Hairpin Coaster

Ойындар

The Inverted Hairpin Coaster is a wild mouse coaster type that is cheap, compact, and very useful in a variety of situations. In this video we take a closer look at how it works and what its good and bad aspects are.

    *2:35* I was quite surprised to see how drastically the throughput drops off as you move the Entrance away from the front tile of the station: A mere _four_ tiles over, and you cut your guests per hour in _half_

  • @StefanVeenstra

    @StefanVeenstra

    2 жыл бұрын

    Depends on train length. If the train length spans more than two tiles, you'll want to have the entrance close to halfway the train length. That way it doesn't matter if the guest chooses to sit in the front or the back, the distance and time walked to either end is equal.

  • @TheTdw2000

    @@StefanVeenstra that doesn't really matter. if it's at the front of the train or the back guests will, on average, take the same amount of time to walk towards their desired seat.

    @@TheTdw2000 They're not recommending it be at the front or the back. They're recommending it be at the middle, which does indeed make a difference. Station at back or front: Guests will, at worst, need to walk the entire length of the train. Station at middle: Guests will, at worst, need to walk half the length of the train. The slowest guest is the delaying factor, so having the station in the middle of the train length is ideal.

    I think the goal is to put the Ride Entrance as close to the halfway point of the size of the train being loaded. So for a train that is 5 cars long you should put the entrance on the third tile from the start, while since the Inverted Hairpin 'train' is 1 car long you put the Ride Entrance on the 1st tile from the start. Basically: (car length + 1)/2 = location for the entrance i.e. for a length 6 train you would go with either the third or fourth tile back.

  • @MickanMansRCTStation

    7:00 I believe the height difference isn't really a bug, but because of how the way the game calculates height. The level to steep drop actually reads at 1 meter lower than the level piece that it is coming off of. The game must calculate height off this piece, so using that level to steep as a drop loses a meter in height. As for the steep to level piece, that keeps the height of the lowest point, so if you use the steep to level piece as the floor, it keeps the full drop length. This is the first time I really realized that and now know that for larger drops, use the steep to level piece at the bottom.

  • @haphazard1342

    @haphazard1342

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's an interesting observation. So you posit that, in the configuration where this piece is at the bottom, it counts as a continuation of the drop height. For that to make sense, then only part of the rest of the track pieces would count as "drop" so we should be able to tease this difference out through other drop configurations or by looking at the code that describes this particular track piece.

    Great video. I have never been a fan of this coaster but should give it another shot. I would like to contribute to your guest throughput talk and add some more to it that I bet you are aware of as well and maybe you even covered before but whatev. You can maintain a steady guest flow and great efficiency by using this simple formula: (Ride time in seconds / Number of trains) = Minimum & Maximum wait time. Set them both at the same time, uncheck "Wait for full load" and you'll see that the train leaves the station usually just as another one is coming to a stop behind it, give or take a few seconds you can tweak it. So as the freshly loaded train is about to leave the station, the one that just completed the ride stops behind it just long enough to let the guests off so that it's empty and ready to load more passengers as soon as it stops at the front of the station. Hopefully that makes sense. I also have noticed that if you have a sloped queue line on the tiles right before the ride entrance, the peeps seem to take longer to get onto the ride as their speed slows down slightly on the incline. I counter that by building 3-5 tiles of flat path from the entrance before making any inclines so that way a train-load of peeps can load up as fast as possible. If I have a long queue or even short queue with long ride time I always put an entertainer in the queue and designate it to stay there. I do the same with the mechanics at exits too. Especially for big roller coasters I'll often designate a mechanic to walk back and forth at the exit, making sure that some of the station is also checked blue or the mechanic will not be able to enter the ride for inspections and repairs.

    I had a few questions I hope you can answer in future videos. 1) You mentioned that guests will not enter a queue if it's full, so shouldn't there be a way to calculate the optimal queue length based on the throughput of a ride, to ensure that even if a guest must wait the maximum possible time, they won't complain about the queue time? 2) How can you determine the optimal "minimum waiting time"? I always turn it off for maximum throughput and rarely have issues (except with the Mini Suspended Coaster, which I now know how to fix!), but I'd imagine there are other situations where it's optimal to turn on. So, how would you know the situations where you want to set a minimum waiting time, and how would you know what length it should be?

  • @Krasbin

    @Krasbin

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think minimum waiting time is mostly for safety (albeit that I sometimes use it with large multistation transport rides, to keep the trains spread out more evenly). In some cases, if there are heavier guests in the train behind one with lighter guests, the one with the heavier guests could catch up with the lighter one given a long enough ride.

    I left a comment with what I'm about to copy and paste, and more, but this should answer your 2nd question :) You can maintain a steady guest flow and max efficiency by using this simple formula: (Ride time in seconds / Number of trains) = Minimum & Maximum wait time.

    Can you do a ride overview on the Splash Boats? Between their capacity per boat, the number of boats, the resulting throughput and the popularity of even (or especially) the most basic pre-built design, it seems a little overpowered.

    Hello everyone, I'm new here. I had RCT2 when I was younger, but a cousin of mine lost my game! He didn't repay me either, so unfair! So I have been feeling uncompleted since then because I didn't finish the scenarios. Can someone be so kind and explain to me what's the difference between RCT2 and OpenRCT2? How can I play the game? Is it free to play? Which one should I play? And why? Thanks for your help and thanks for this channel for being the spark to re-live this amazing game!

    OpenRCT2 is a mod that brings a lot of quality of life additions to RCT2, such as playing in HD, fast forwarding, auto-placing staff, and much much more. You do need the base game, which you can buy on places like Steam. OpenRCT2 is free to download at openrct2.org/.

    Harpain sounds better than hairpin anyways. i second younger Marcel's pronunciation of this coaster's name. I have struggled for the longest time with this - kept getting crashes, but than i decided to make smallest i could and that fixed my problems somehow.

    3:16 So if you have a small wild mouse that never uses all of its cars at the same time (or even close), does it make sense (and money) to remove some of them? Is there ever any benefit for having less than the max # of trains (aside from going down to 1 to prevent crashes)?

    Each train on this coaster type costs an additional 8 or 9.6 per hour. Regarding crashes, both increasing and decreasing the number of trains can prevent or cause certain types of crashes. There are many ways to crash a coaster, some being quite obscure.

    55 guest per ride, that is less than the launched freefall with 65. Yesterday, I beat Amity Airfield easily, by spamming 16 small lanched freefalls, after which I build many other nice rides and many shops and stalls.

    I wonder if that bug has anything to do with the game potentially not counting the first piece of the drop as part of the total drop height. Level-to-gentle would cause the next piece to be 1 unit below, while level-to-steep would cause the next piece to be 2 units below. That's weird.
