I started out with the Lee primer, version 1.0 single primer. It worked great but I wore it out. Like you, I got frustrated with Lee changing shell holders with every "upgrade" to their hand primer. I ditched Lee and bought the RCBS and couldn't be happier. Those of you who have problems with primers feeding improperly, make sure the ram rod is installed with the "flat" end up or you'll have problems with primers flipping, etc. If you haven't figured out the hand motion to make the RCBS primer work smoothly in 10-15 cases, the problem is NOT the primer. The only complaint I have with the RCBS hand primer is the metal strap that operates everything is too thin and can bend where the cut out is for primer feeding. There's no reason RCBS couldn't make it a bit thicker.

The reason I prefer to prime my brass with this tool is because I can feel the resistance of the seating primer. If one goes in too easy, I set it aside to test it later. Some primer pockets wear out or are out of spec. The primer could be dislodged upon firing the cartridge and in an auto loader like the AR-15 a lost primer can cause stoppages. I actually lost a loose primer in the gas key of my bolt carrier group. What are the chances, right? But it took that AR out of action for quite some time until I figured it out. Priming with a press, especially a progressive press, is harder to feel a loose primer pocket.

Been using one of these for years, and it's not "cr**" - like anything else, it takes a period of familiarization. It's not slow either - the other night I primed 2000 rounds in about 4 hrs.

I have a brand new one just purchased. Priming 9mm shells. Almost every other one turns sideways in press and presses sideways. Without a shell in the holder I can watch the primer coming up the white tube an turning sideways. What could be wrong? By the way, Excellent video. I am new to reloading and just bought the RCBS hand chucker supreme kit.

I'd be willing to bet you have the priming ram installed upside down. It has a flat end, which should be up (top) and a rounded end, which should be down. If the rounded end is up, it will flip primers almost every time.

I bought one years ago. Flew apart the first time I used it. I went back to Lee Never found anyone who could assemble RCBS primer tool and make it work. Same for the RCBS turret .. sent that back to Midway USA. Never had any luck with RCBS.

I purchased the same Hand priming tool RCBS 90200, For some reason I cannot get it to use the Lee shell holders but the RCBS shell holders work fine on mine. As far as the round vs square primer tray version the square RCBS 90201 has a universal shell holder and does not require you to use your own shell holders.

I have the same issue with the Lee shell holder. Looks like I'll need the RCBS to use it. Thanks for the info.

Lee makes 2 types of shell holders. One is the 'normal' shell holder that's used in a reloading press. Those shell holders are universal. One brand is the same as another brand. Lee's hand priming tool requires a proprietary shell holder. It only works in the Lee hand priming tool. That's probably the shell holder you're trying to use with your RCBS hand primer.

I understand what you are saying Master Toan but I'm not trying to use the Lee hand priming shell holders for mine. I am using the Lee shell holder used in presses for reloading, I have both the universal set Lee sells and the shell holder that came with some of my die sets. The problem is Lee shell holders have a different angle on the bevel on the bottom side of the shell holder than RCBS has so when you try to use the Lee they will not go all the way down on the plastic guide. You can take a large drill bit and change the angle of the bevel so the Lee shell holders will work.

On my RCBS priming tool, the rod that pushes the primer into the pocket seems too long. It wont let the primers fall into the tool to load the primer.

make sure the lever is opening up all the way so the rod can go all the way down. also you may have to tap or shake it a little.

What depth are you seating your primers at ? Factory shells are 0.004" below flush. I get better groups with 0.007" below flush. some like 0.008" to 0.010" below. You got about 0.013" to 0.015" below flush before you bottom out.. Better to go lower for floating firing pin guns. (AR's, BLR's ,BAR's) Frankford Arsenal Platinum Hand Priming Tool can be adjusted to 0.015 below flush..

On pistol calibers I just send it, on small bore rifle I just send it on large bore rifles I just send it. I don't know of a way using this tool to get precise seating depth. But I'll pay more closer attention in the furure. I have really good luck with SD when I uniform the flash holes I have a video using the Lyman tool

Could you turn the shell holder around so when you tilt the tool{ to let the primers fall} the brass will not fall out?

Mine has a problem with hanging before I get complete handle closure and it is only getting worse with time. I wouldn't recommend buying this model. Unfortunately it's the only one I have experience with, so I can't give you the name of a good one. But I'm about to buy something else in the hope that it will work better.

I'm not sure how you got yours so reliable with small rifle primers. I have two copies of this and neither of them work reliably with CCI small rifle primers. They're both POSes.

Junk. I bought one and the rod won't align up thru the body. Holes in the tool are drilled to large. Returned it to store and the other 3 were the same problem. I did fight it for several minutes and it went together then it works ok. Changing to different primer size and same problems again. I will use the primer unit on my press. Shame on rcbs, there were also very sharp edges where the shell holder fits. Nothing is beburred. Made in china ? I would not recommend this tool.

Just got this to reload some 300blk with lee #4 shell holder that came with the lee 300blk dies and this thing wont perform for shit. Keeps raping the fuck out of my hard earned 300blk cases and destroying the rim rendering them useless. Top dollar for a primitive piece of shit!

This thing is a piece of crap. It takes so long to load the primers that you are better off using a single primer seater and just loading each individual primer yourself. Complete waste of time and VERY frustrating to use

+rob ase..who cares what he means? He is right, this thing is a monumental steaming load of shit! The thing jams; the stupid-assed piston and spring fall out all the time, and it's a bitch to reassemble. I blew $50 or so on this thing and the only thing it's good for is sharpening my four-letter vocabulary.

It's the most frustrating piece of reloading equipment I own. I finally figured out how to make the change from small to large and large to small a little easier. I don't know how to fully describe it (without extreme and plentiful profanity) but hopefully this little bit of info will help someone else. As you're reassembling you have to use a small screw driver to hold the plunger at just the right angle in order to keep it from binding. If I'd known how ridiculously difficult to set up this thing is I'd have bought something else.

either you got a bad one, there is user error, or you're a troll. mine works fine. yeah somtimes that rod pops out but it's not that hard to put it back in.
