    Thank you SBG for this excellent review! This was a project long in the making, taking more than two years to complete. We were supposed to originally have this as a Grand Prize raffle item for our annual Rubicon Round-Up event in 2015 but we invested extra time to make sure the details were up to par! Marlin is honored to have his 1980 Toyota truck modeled after, the #1 most wheeled Toyota truck in the entire world! (See our vintage photo gallery of this same truck dating back to 1983 here: www.marlincrawler.com/gallery/vintage-crawler-truck-pictures.) We are now offering this RTR Crawler Truck Kit on our website along with other RC4WD goodies at our newest category to our website, R/C Cars! Please visit www.marlincrawler.com/rc-cars/ for more info and thank you to everyone for the positive comments and for helping us and RC4WD make this a success!

    1000:1 wow.. Granny gear is what we called it when a friend of mine & I used a 79 Ford flat bed to haul hay (square bails that weighed 60-80 lbs, no loader). You could just it let idle in 1st & just bump the steering every now & then between rows.. We were both 17 in 90 & hauled for a few seasons, 2nd season we got a loader, where does the time go?! Great review btw, thought about the RTR version, always wanted one but were always sold out...

    So what do you think about running it straight out of the box and beating it up a bit and then painting it, with weathering of course? I'm still a clumsy crawler so I can definitely put some scale dingery to it. That idea will definitely break the shiny-spell for me and keep it off of the shelf and on the dirt for me and make for a fun paint project. Thoughts?

  • @scalebuildersguild

    @scalebuildersguild

  • @Projectlinkme

    @Projectlinkme

    Well, that hard body with paint on the exterior will definitely lose some shine to the rocks! Paint scrapes off relatively easily. If I were you, I'd definitely look into spraying a base color and the top color in stages, so that the base color might be revealed when the top layer is scraped off. Just a thought! Love my TF2 though! check out my channel I have a few vids up of my tf2 before it was painted!

    You mentioned the Battery that came with it, I haven’t been in the RC world in some time, there where no crawlers back then, love your reviews, can you recommend a battery pack ? I own a Real life 86 4 Runner, I identical to the new kit. So I want to build that kit. But I didn’t like your response to the battery that comes with the Marlin Crawler kit.

    It's NIMH, and for me, those don't perform to my level of satisfaction, hence why I run LiPo batteries. I'd recommend something from Helios. Good quality packs, good price. You'll need a charger capable of Lipo technology.

  • @BarkingSpyda

    @BarkingSpyda

    6 жыл бұрын

    Good question & I see where you're coming from ... this is already fully leaf sprung as is a real FJ40. The Gelande II wheelbase is 275mm but visually 285mm looks way better, pushing the front axle forward relative to the Cruisers body. With this RTR rockin' a wheelbase of 287mm ... you won't be the last to consider it! btw wheelbase 1:1 J40 = 2285mm / 287mm = 7.96 ... that's so close to 1:8th scale ... which the Cruiser body really is.

  • @scalebuildersguild

    @scalebuildersguild

I looked at it on the website, and they've been long sold out! 😱😭😭 I think I like it for most of the reasons that you do. I'd get one (dreaming!!), Build a worthy interior, do all the lights, do your Leaf Spring Hacks, and RUN IT! *With the NiMh!!* Sorry, I'm really that Poor, even IF I could afford Lipo Batteries, I still couldn't afford the charger and the required BOMB PROOF Bags for them!
