Try Q-Bond to glue the body, it sets almost instantly and can be ground to shape and is extremely strong. It also works well with ABS plastic from my experience. You can buy it on ebay. I hope this helps you 🦘🇦🇺

I think the cool thing about those Bugs is no matter what kind of style you like or driving style you want to do, you can make the old bug do pretty much anything. Slam it, hot rod or rat rod it, off road them, drift them, dune buggy.

I so want a sand scorcher! Just can't justify the moneys to go chopping it up. Which is what I will do 😱

Arron Jones you can actually get a Tamiya factory replacement monster beetle body for around 17 to 20 bucks on ebay, it doesn’t come with all the accessories like mirrors and lights though. I plan to build mine on an old grasshopper chassis and 3D print all the other decor parts.

It's awesome you don't even have to finish body work or make shit line up right when it's a rat rod....makes it so much easier

It's fascinating watching you work... Such dedication to craft and technique!! 👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I often feel like you were born in the wrong Decade. Like myself... 1940's - 1950's Nawlins or Memphis, I can guess - just by the Music you often choose, and obviously Bodywork you come up with. You ever try good 'ol Bondo to splice panels? I have, with pretty good results.... From the Inside. Please stay SAFE! 😷 Carmine ✈🚂🚙

Haha, Ive always been attached to the 50's. Ive used bondo some in RC stuff, the army truck build just got some when I widened the front fenders. Weight is the biggest issue. I had way too much experience with it in high school building "show trucks" haha, so I try to stay away from it now days.

I guess I can understand that.... I grew up in the Northeast, and have seen my share of BONDO BUCKET rides!! Some idiots literally FILLED Rot holes with it, and thought nobody would notice! 😲

That’s a great job on a chop. I’ve seen Real bugs get chopped and there are a number of cuts made along the top as well to shorten it. As far as glue goes. I haven’t tried it myself but I’ve seen guys make a styrene slurry from Tamiya thin CA and bits of styrene chopped into it. Apparently they say it works really well depending on how thick you make it and it holds very strong. Unfortunately the sand scorcher already has a shortened Baja nose. Ideally, A stock length VW hood might meet up with the beam and cover most of it aside from the shock towers. I’m wondering if styrene sheets could be bent up into shape and massaged into a simulated early front hood. I don’t have the heart to cut up my sand scorcher body so I’ll just enjoy you working on yours

A rat rod VW really needs a stock hood, not a baja front end. Yes, I know you're stuck with what you have. If you could fab up a normal hood, it'd be great. Or, just take the nose off and make filler pieces to make it look like the front suspension belongs there. Can you pull the front beam apart and re-clock the end pieces? Or even make a torsion adjuster like a real vw?
