    What are you doing for fertilizer? Is your soil sandy? I'm in Northern Lower MI and working on a privacy hedge of Big Bluestem and Switchgrass. Thanks!

    I don't fertilize my switchgrass. If you wanted to fertilize it I wouldn't for the first couple years while it's establishing. You'll help the weeds more than anything.

    How does that hold up in winter? Looks good by the way. I planted Cave in Rock this year and it did the best I have ever seen . Real dry conditions too here in upstate NY. Great videos.

    Thanks Mark! Glad to hear you had some great first year success. From all of Roger's tests up in Canada this should easily outperform CIR in the winter but this will be my first winter with it so I can't speak from firsthand experience yet.

    Interested on what the range in MN this variety is recommended? I’m in Mille Lacs county

    It’s a top performer in its 4th year in a trial at South Shore South Dakota and well adapted to that site. The parent material of RC Tecumseh was the best performer in a long term trial at Ferguson Falls MN. It should manage winterhardiness zone 3B if managed for habitat.

    Can I overseed rc tecumseh into 2 year old Cave that is very sparse, 2 feet tall? Battling thistle. Can I simazine mid April and glyco May 1 before the old switch greens up? Great channel! Wish I would have found it sooner!!

    Sorry just seeing this comment. If you have bare dirt spots you can try mix in a little more switch but generally that method doesn't produce great results. Yes you can simazine prior to green up. And yes you can glyphosate before the switchgrass pops but that is a pretty risky step. You REALLY need to know whether or not the switchgrass is up

    Thanks Sam!! My switch had not sprouted from the old tufts. Sprayed glycophos early last week then over seeded with rc big rock and some tecumseh. Mowed last years dry dead switch yesterday. Hoping for big things after this rain.

    I see you said you frost seated can you give me the date that you did that? I'm in upstate South Carolina so I'm not sure how that will work. What I've read is you're supposed to wait for the warmer weather so that it'll catch

    You can certainly plant during the growing season. Just know that any dormant seed/hard seed won't germinate until the following year. It needs freezing/thawing to soften the seed. Dormancy rates vary widely between seed. I've seen dormancy rates as low as 3% and as high as 80%. If you're planting in the growing season try vett out the seed before you buy it to make sure it has a low dormancy rate.

    Interested in your pounds per acre you recommend for bedding like you have shown here?

  • @PFHabitat

    On a well prepped seed bed when frost seeding I stick to around 8 pounds per acre.

    I am as well. Year one isn't a good test for this. First year stands are always weaker. I'll get a better idea next year. Switch is fully established by year 3 so that will be the real test

    Frosted seeded in March. Prep done the year prior to expose dirt and control weeds. Sprayed with glyphosate early May prior to switchgrass germination

  • @PFHabitat

    @PFHabitat

    @@MegaBraunie that fully depends on how clean your brassica stand was from weeds. I've seen this both succeed and fail depending on how clean it was the year prior
