RC Motors 101

Ойын-сауық

In this Video AJ walks you through the inner workings of the RC motors used in today's RCs. Delving into both the brushed and brushless systems, we try and answer some of the questions we get here at the studio. Building on our 101 playlist, we are proud to add the RC Motors 101 to that list. Come along and join us as we do our best to help those who are new to the hobby.

I've always been pretty curious about the more exact science of these things. Just never curious enough to dig in. Saw this on my feed tonight after work and was quite excited. Thanks AJ 👍

Great video! I usually take the brushed out and go brushless but I have a couple kits I’d like to keep brushless and see what they can do!!… thanks for the info!🤜🤛

Excellent vid, very informative. Is there any chance you can make a soldering 101 video?

Hi AJ, enjoyed the tutorial. So my understanding for a 550 brushed 21T. If I were running a motor for a SCT, you would go with a smaller pinion 12T or 14T?

I'll just pick me up a outcast for s. And I was wondering what battery do you recommend? As far as getting good, run time and a good punch.

Aj, if you a little get white lithium grease on the plastic body of the frame. Do you wipe it off with mineral spirits?

I would simply wipe it off.

I really dont get why so many youtubers get this wrong: more turns does NOT equal more torque!!! The only thing affecting torque is the size of the magnets.

There are two magnetic fields inside the motor, the magnets and the magnetic field created by the armature. Each turn of wire in the armature creates a field for that section. The more turns on the field the more magnetism each field contains. While it is true the outer magnets are the determining factor in total power, the internal field is the one that harnesses it. The fewer turns on a field the easier the armature overcomes the drag created when the brushes switch. The more windings the stronger the field but it can also limit the speed of rotation due to this factor. More turns = stronger pull from the armature up to the total power of the bell magnets.
