RC HOT TIP: Choosing the right RC Connectors

RC HOT TIP: Choosing the right RC Connectors
Here's another RC HOT TIP where I show you the connectors I have recently upgraded to and why. There are various different types of connectors out there and some are better than others for their own reasons, but my choice was made due to the ease of use and simplicity when running 2 batteries in series.
Hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. :)

Great video! Glad to see someone else putting out a good word on the XT150. I switched all my surface RCs to them about a year ago and never looked back. Easy to solder, very versatile and easy to disconnect. Best of all they are pretty cheap and come in 3 colors if you want to do motor/ESC connections as well.

Just wanted to say I really appreciate your video. Just finished adding a Sidewinder 8th and figured it was the perfect time to change connectors. I used the xt150’s and won’t look back at those Traxxas connectors. Being able to avoid the “Y” connection is super nice too. Thanks so much for posting.

Not so much a joke but an observation. Tamiya plugs are among the weakest plugs for RC. Though popular in older RC's, anything above 30-40 A and the connector just melts together. To claim 300+ Amperes and then fit a Tamiya plug on your ESC says to me "I put that number on the package but I don't believe it either" .

I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the castle connectors but they are very $$$$ plus i love the way they disconnect so you dont have to use an adapter to run two 3s or 4s packs for 6 or 8s speed runs and ill save a bit of money i can put into my car/lipos etc... shame bc i just bought a big pack of deans connectors a few months ago but they have been heating up quite a bit! Im sure ill find another use for em! Thanks again for taking the time to share info with other hobby junkies! Take care n be safe!

Hi Vas. You sold me on converting to XT150 and I have watched this vid and your xt150 soldering video. The only thing you left out is a detailed section on what gender and housing to use on charger leads, battery, and esc to duplicate what you did. Even a picture of each would suffice. I have spent quite a bit of time searching the internet and info on this topic is scattered, inconsistent and conflicting with each other. Thanks mate. The way I'm putting it all together in my mind is: ESC: Female large red housing, Male skinny black housing Batteries: Female skinny red housing, Male large black housing Charger lead: Female large red housing, Male skinny black housing If that's not right, I'm totally lost.

the red plug with the 4mm bullets are HXT 4mm. rated to 93A, they are super simple to solder and you can cut the plastic housing in half to make series connections like the xt150. I use these exclusively for my F3A pattern planes where 80-85A are typical, I use two 5S packs are wired in series to make a 10s pack. since they are banana conectors, they are great for lots of other uses too. you get a 10 pack from HK for about $4 USD.

If it's not melting off you will not gain anything. Yes you can lower restaince slightly depending on what connectors you run you prob get lower restaince just running shorter wires most the time. People don't run dean's much because it's common for them to unsolder.

I've always liked the idea of plugging batteries in series with bullet style connectors, however the danger of being able to plug them wrong (Short circuit a battery on itself or closing the circuit between 2 batteries) makes me regret them. Also the use of right sized or over sized connectors will mitigate the multi connection points "bottleneck" problem.

Aussie? Why does the X maxx use fusible links then? Will this setup (pluging red into black) work on the X maxx using the Hobbywing Max 6? Thanks, your always so informative.

Not sure what you mean... But if you're asking if the Traxxas connectors worth with the Max6 ESC, then the answer is yes. They should work with any ESC.

Sorry for the confusion. I was wondering if the XT150 connectors would work on the Hobbywing Max6 Esc.

XT90 with Anti-Spark are for me the best connectors. Protects your Electronics!!!

Great video, as you know I have moved from 6mm bullets to EC5 and haven't looked back. Realistically do you see a performance increase by eliminating a Y adapter.... Hmmmm...

+Cameron Nicholson I moved from deans to EC5 a year ago and never looked back, run EC5 on everything but my B5m lite.

+Mike Mayo Great choice! I couldn't be happier with EC5, can be a tad tight but thats forgivable

great video👍. I love the series connection thats possible with the XT150's. I appreciate the information and since seeing this video I've decided the XT150's are the best way to go . Just a quick question if you dont mind, I would assume that if connecting XT150's in parallel you'd still need a standard parallel connector similar to a deens type?

After watching this 4 years ago, I switched solely to xt150, benn using ever since and have had 0 problems. I’m suprised people don’t switch I’ve yet to see an rc other than mine with the 150’s..everyone seems to be using the piddly EC5..Hah!

Vas I watched one of ur other videos about soldering and i noticed u didn't say anything about flux .i was wondering if u use it or not

The solder I'm using has flux in it, so I don't use any additional flux. I do have a flux pen I've used in the past, but it hardly gets used these days.

@@AussieRCPlayground yeah I didn't realize you didn't have to use flux if your solder has flux in it and I tried your Technique last night and it worked pretty good thank you
