Super impressive modification. I was waiting for you to through that aluminum block in a CNC machine and when you pulled out the hacksaw I gained a lot of appreciation for your ability and desire to use whatever you have to make something better.

Thank you, I appreciate that! DIY crafting is mostly about having patience, I found. The hacksaw is an example; it might take longer, but it will do the job! ✌️ DJ

Mechanical Engineer here...Even a few rubber bands would be better than epoxy...except for style points!

The epoxy is to seal it against water again. Thermal conductivity is done by CPU thermal paste 👍
Mechanical Engineer here...If you used a metal spring clip instead of epoxy..you would have better assurance of contact and better access...just like a computer cpu heat sink.

Hi, the epoxy is to make it water resistant again. I added thermal conductive cooling paste between the cooling block and the controller FET's (the white paste). Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing! I would expect that an device sustaining 150A current would have elaborate internal zig zag cooling conduits within the metal block, was shocked when you showed in the video that it is really just 2 straight tube and not even placed anywhere near the heat source!

Thanks! Yes it is a faulty design, on my opinion. Other than that, they are great, especially for their money!
Great job on these blocks! I love all the custom neat parts you make for your builds, big thumbs up!

Thanks Jan ✌️ I love the DIY part of this hobby!
Holy smokes!, I have done something like that for one of my esc's. I drilled a second side hole through the center to have the block wetter . At least that was the idea. Just plugged mine by beveling the hole abit and using jb weld. , Taped it and put the block on it's side. The jb settled nice. Mine was a project build with what I had. The esc was for a car 😊 i have also removed a fin and rounded the base with a chainsaw file so that the tube would have goob contact,,, ans yup!, jb'd it. What I wasn't digging was the tubing linking the tubes. It actually worked well. Keep up the good work!! Your hull looks killer! 👍🤙🇨🇦

Thanks madmaxximus! Sounds good on your esc mods. I considered a second perpendicular cooling hole in the block, but I feared the water would take the short-cut and the second loop at the back would not really cool. The Twin hull gets along well. Working on the twin motor mount. Pretty stoked about that project! ✌️ DJ
Good modification that really makes sense... I did a (strange, more risk off leaking i guess) mod to a x8s esc. Made from 1mm g10 material and epoxy a case around the aluminium ribs of the esc and glued that on the esc and added on the top a water in-, and outlet. Works like a charm though, there is a lot off cooling area that way and i didnt have to open it... There are also head disappating pads, personally i like these more. Its a dry material and that way you can be sure there is no contact between metal parts...

Very cool and clever modification of the Esc 👍👍👍 Jan and so nice video! I wouldn t dare to open an esc... 😯. You are right about these cheap drills, they are so annoying when they don t drill straight.

Thank you Dim! This is the submerged esc from the Wildthing, so I had to open it anyway to check if no water had entered. I hope to have shown that it is actually easy and with low risk. The drills might be pretty good, but the drill itself is a cheap one. But for hobby purposes, it serves me for many years already! ✌️ DJ

Your video - tutorial is excellent Jan and clear cut. The process is straightforward and relatively easy. Very impressive that this sunk esc is still in good working condition. You have also made a good process with your mono... 👍👍👍

@@kaprc631 I appreciate the kind words Dim. These videos take a lot of work, and the positive feedbacks motivate me to make the next video! The G-Force comes along very well. I'm making the twin motor mount at the moment. Then the deck will be bonded on. If I would use purchased hardware, it could maybe run in 1 or 2 months, but with all the DIY hardware it might take 4 months 😅. I hope to have a unique and fast boat in the end! ✌️ DJ

I copied your idea the only thing I did different was I put my drillings inline with the brass strips so I had to make my hose connections vertical. Gets great water flow It’s temps are always cool man I would love to measure it’s amp draw. It’s fits the boat so much better now. Thanks heaps With the pipes coming our vertical I was able to reduce the thickness of the aluminium block and I ground some cooling fins where I could so it’s actually lighter than original now.

That’s got to raise its amp rating it’s so much better cooling.

Yes it might! Actually, they can already take a beating in stock form. Solid esc's, but the stock cooling is not great. ✌️ DJ
Very nice mod, interested to see when you test it. Have you thought about running a small electric water pump? i bought one and have been thinking about using it in my mono with a 150 flycolor
@CozyRC
10 ай бұрын
Thanks Mat, and it would be nice to test it side by side with a stock Flycolor 150A esc. Not sure if I will be able to do so, because I will modify both of my Flycolors with this mod. I think a water pump is not required actually. The water pickup from the boat in motion is sufficient. ✌️ DJ
Hi friends, can the manufacturer's flycolor ESC cooler be modified by giving it flowing water in the middle of the cooler by giving it a pipe tube and covering each side with glue on the left and right sides of the chamber so that water can flow in and out of the cooler... Please help, friend. .because I want to modify the cooling of this flycolor esc with the existing cooling in the flycolor esc..🙏

HI Ahmad, yes that's possible. One of my RC friends did it like that and it works great 👍 .
Fantastic mod. Unfortunately, most people don't have the equipment needed to do this themselves.

Thanks! I actually used basic tools only. Maybe the drill press is something not everyone has, but with a steady hand, you could do so with a hand drill as well. I want to share you can do nice DIY mods and builds without sophisticated tools 😎👍

Hi what is the purpose for the hole drilled in the side of the cooling block? Is it to connect the two cooling tubes together?
@CozyRC

Hi Chris, Yes, you got that right!
What powder is mixed with epoxy?
@CozyRC
7 ай бұрын
It's microballoons to thicken the epoxy, with carbon dust to color it grey. The carbon dust is not required, but thickening the epoxy is required to make it into a paste. ✌️
Brand epoxy?
@CozyRC

It's a Dutch brand: www.mrboat.nl/mrboat-epoxy/universele-epoxy-langzaam/?v1=3000-gram&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAm4WsBhCiARIsAEJIEzWEPsobHpXOQmnPO-vYUblPOrcKy-7Js307YA4c2rwh0eR09dbbrbcaAkQIEALw_wcB
