(Sorry, my Russian isn't good enough). This work is one of my favorite Russian Orthodox settings. In two minutes, it packs a cavalcade of some of the most emotive and characteristic gestures of 19th/20th century Russian Orthodox style, minor ninth chords, third-inversion augmented sixths, octave-doubled bass suspensions, dramatic _unisono_ passages, etc., conveying the tremendous darkness appropriate to the depiction of Calvary, ending in the full relative-major _divisi_ ending, "и спаси мя!". It is miniature masterpiece. (I met in on Spassky's 1957 Paris recording, and have never since heard it performed or recorded, although I was lucky to obtain a handwritten score from the late Igor Studenzoff in 1972).
