Hi, this message is for Elder Raymond Robinson. I am the Canada Research Chair in Regional Innovation at the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy and Director for the International Centre for Northern Governance and Development at the University of Saskatchewan. I am sending this message to notify you that your comment has been selected for use in an upcoming book that examines the Idle No More movement. The book is entitled "#Idle No More and The Remaking of Canada" and I am seeking your permission to use the following quotation. I have included the surrounding sentences (which may be edited) with your quotations. The group then marched to Parliament Hill, led by drums, eagle staffs and dancers. They were met by the Chiefs en route and the group then continued to the rally on Parliament Hill. Loud “Idle No More Chants” reverberated across the city. Elder Raymond Robinson who had joined Chief Spence’s fast, addressed the crowd: “I have waited for this day, for a long time. It’s one of the proudest moments to see our people, a nation rise together and tell the Harper government you will never divide us. We will rise together as a united nation not a divided nation. We are all brothers and sisters no matter where you come from, where you’ve been, what colour you are. We are one nation! All of us. A moment I will remember. I always aspired to see this day. All of us, as nations have suffered. Every one of us.” We have been told that quotations such as yours, created and circulated through social media, are in the public domain. I would feel much better knowing that you understood that your quotation was being used and that you approved of its use. We are, as I hope you will agree, using your quotation respectfully and accurately. #Idle No More is a personal reflection, written as a non-Aboriginal person, on a movement that I believe is among the most important social, cultural and political processes in recent Canadian history. I wrote this book to drawn attention to the long term significance and empowerment of Aboriginal people that I see arising out of the Idle No More Movement. Your words and those of hundreds of other Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Canadians give this story its substance and power. Thank you for considering this request. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Ken.coates@usask.ca Yours truly, Ken Coates
