    I'd love to see a follow up video on the setup and configuration... in particular the boat type, the rudder angle and the hard over time.

    Would like to see you install it. I put it in my Catalina 30. If your not familiar with a autopilot its a bear to go in. The instructions are not intuitive. But, eventually I did get it in and working. But not an easy job. Thanks google!

    would this work with a Bristol 34?

    I have an existing NMEA2k network and am adding a raymarine auto pilot. I want to connect both the NMEA & Seatalk NG networks via adapter cable to allow the auto pilot to draw GPS, Wind and speed through water data from the NMEA networK... but that would mean the single combined network will have 2 power cables on it. Should I remove one of the power cables or is it ok to have 2 power sources on a single network?

    Hmmm, good one, i'd suggest to modify the N2K cable interconnecting both networks so they don't share power.

    As I understood from Raymarine the ACU is NOT the brain. It looks like the computer, but actually it is only the ‘translator’ between the digital steering instructions and the currents needed for the drive. Hence the name: ‘Actuator Control Unit’. The actual brain with the algorithms is in the EV-1 puck, which also houses the solid state motion detectors and compass.

    Totally right! Hence why the EV-1 is the most expensive item on that system. Almost triple the price of an old flux gate compass.

    Adding a rudder sensor will make a lot more efficient. Too bad that Raymarine doesn’t has not included it on that package.

    Agreed, a rudder angle indicator is useful.

    I’m helping a friend (70) and not tech savvy, he thought it included the sensor, he and myself can’t believe how ordinary this system works without the sensor. 2 weeks of setup HELL. I have a hydraulic setup on my cat due to the steering choice. Ray marine are not including the rudder sensor in the kit. REDICULOUS!!!! My only conclusion is to sell units at a competitive price, to later realise you need to get another most important piece the rudder sensor. I will never use Raymarine ever again. It is dishonest and misleading. That is all, I am Australian on the Barrier Reef, waiting for another piece to come via COVID mail to a remote location.

    @@jason13533 well, it does work without the rudder sensor. Used mine for ten years without one. Now, I just installed one and it does makes a difference, but if set up properly, you can live without it.

    Do you have to have the separate control head or can you just use an axiom chartplotter?

  • @PacificYachtSystems

    You should be able to use just the axiom. It's nice to have the pilot controller as well.

    When integrating this system into a NMEA2000 network are three adapters required to connect SeaTalk to NMEA2000?

  • @PacificYachtSystems

    @PacificYachtSystems

    Hmmm, you need a Seatalk to SeaTalkNG converter and you also need a pigtail STNG to N2K cable.

    Raymarine sells backbone adapter cables now. Seatalk NG to male devicenet part #A80674 and to female #A80675
