Ray won the national championship by a large margin. Powerlifting America is the IPF affiliate for the U.S., and uses the same testing organization as the Olympic Committee. Ray has always lifted in drug tested meets.

    A few years ago, he suffered terrible food poisoning and injuries with it and lost a lot of muscle and he was never able to bounce back, at his meet with the sickness, he failed a 125kg bench

    He had kids probably tapered off the gear and is out of his prime. Powerlifters have a very short shelf life.

    I actually got too meet feb 19th, 2023 he’s a nice guy and when I first saw him I was just in aww cause he is so big when he walked in the door my jaw dropped and I said are you ray Williams the pro power lifter and he said yes and I asked him too take a few pictures with and he yeah sure but I was nervous but he said to me I’m just a big teddy bear and he gave me a huge hug and I thought he was gonna break me in half he’s a nice guy and was a great pleasure too meet him in person for the first time ever…

    @@teknoaija1762 Not necessarily. Often big guys with weak benches are much better overhead/inclined, because its more about raw pressing strenght and less about the ideal barbell path, arching etc.

    Remember drug tested does not mean drug free. I personally know chairmen at nasa powerlifting. Drugs do happen. Same in usapl. There's a reason Layne backed out of it. He was getting busted

    i will never ever understand why in such HIGH competitions with extremely attention to prevent injuries, why they do not use safety bars in the bench , and why they do not use the *monolift* lever rack squat to avoid the *walk off* in order to perform a squat , plus of course safety bars at the bottom. i always wanted to know the reason, they allows everything to prevent and warm up , sleeves knees and elbows, and entire suit, but a big NO for the real safety while performing those exercises with such impressive weights.

    Safety arms in bench block the side view of judges. The same might be apply for those in squat. I also think it's fair for not using monolift lol. Im sick of seeing wide stance squatter.

    Saftey straps are for the monolift. Other feds use them. The IPF doesn't because it would cut into their bottom line as they are more expensive to transport. Pretty clear the IPF puts lifter saftey near the bottom. All you have to do is look at footage from the year worlds was held in Kileen Texas.

    John is way more open about gear usage and has blasted his way to the top. Ray competed in natty feds and had to be somewhat careful.

    John is just a damn good bencher and deadlifter. His squats aren’t bad by any means but larger guys like Ray own squats and typically have trouble doing deadlifts due to their size..they kinda get in their own way.

    @@sleepy502 ? lol Haack is outlifting guys twice his bodyweight in untested as well John is just an anomaly, it's that simple. Ray was pushing for the untested world record and heaviest raw squat in history while being tested. It has nothing to do with "natty feds" and more just that Ray is obviously older and not as peaked as he used to be.

    Larry wheels can do over 900 and he's smaller pound for pound Larry is stronger and looks better he just looks fat he's strong but I'd never wanna look like that I'd rather be strong but look good and be healthy and I do jiu-jitsu So I can fight weights don't help u fight really
