I’m with Ray 100% on this. His family was horrible for making fun of him.

He liked Karen n her voice, even though she didn't like him, so he kept the tape.

Souds like a typical female excuse to find fault in a man I can guess that you would also feel like it was hilarious when she socked him in the groin and he went down in pain.

Everybody is coming down hard on Debra for being mean. But she was right to be curious who keeps a break up tape? And she was sympathetic when he told her the reason was because he wanted to know why she broke up with him. Plus Ray was going to far with replacing every item she has from her past relationships.

Yeah, this situation was a weird writing choice. Debra had no reason to confront Ray about this, especially because she said she wasn't mad or jealous. And to have her play the tape on a kiddie player while standing and staring at him, I blame that on lazy directing. It would have been more in character for (vindictive) Debra to keep this info until she needed something to embarass Ray, or (empathetic) Debra to sit and present the tape discreetly if she really wanted to make sure Ray was okay after 20 years
