Ray Charles is the King of Soul Music; he invented modern soul music. Known as The Genius, he was blind and one of the best soul, blues, and jazz musicians ever. There will never be another Ray Charles.

Ray Charles was one of the first to take gospel music and add secular lyrics and subject matter creating Soul Music. He in fact took a lot of heat from the churches at the time saying he was playing "The Devil's Music". Turning gospel music into a sexy song was pretty bold!

Billy Joel wrote Baby Grand specifically for a duet with Ray Charles and got to perform it with him on his The Bridge album. Ray Charles in the late 80’s was still great. Also had a collaboration with Willy Nelson, Seven Spanish Angels that was a hit.

Before Little Richard,, Elvis, Bill Haley, Big Mama Thornton and the rest, Ray Charles started creating what we know as ROCK AND ROLL (a mix of gospel, blues, country blues, and big band musics.) Ray is the originator of rock.

Ray Charles was a great singer, songwriter, pianist & composer. He pioneered the soul music genre during the 50's by combining blues, jazz, R&B & gospel styles. He had so many great songs such as "Hit The Road Jack", "Georgia On My Mind", "Mess Around", "It Should've Been Me", "Don't You Know", "Midnight Hour", "Sinner's Prayer", "I've Got A Woman", "This Little Girl Of Mine", "A Fool For You", "Busted", "Take These Chains From My Heart", "Crying Time" etc.

It took Ray quite a while to find his own voice. In his early recordings he is closer to the vocal style/sounds of Nat King Cole and Charles Brown

The story is that Ray Charles improvised this song one night at a show when they had extra time to fill. (If you actually listen to the lyrics, they don't really make any sense. LOL.) That night was re-created in the movie "Ray": kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6mpm8RvobqZibg.htmlsi=Im3Nx-2Jjbeye7-e
