He was good, but not nearly as good as Sammy Davis Jr's rendition of the song.... No one can match Sammy's passion and bravado while singing this song !!!!!!!!!!

Outside of the film rendition, this is the best I’ve EVER heard. By the end, I was in tears.

yeh, if your looking for soul, but ray had more than that, when he sang, you knew that voice, right away. ray sang with so much feeling, and emotion, his beautiful voice, would tug at you heart strings, almost wanna make you cry! now thats the mark of excellence. may be gone, but never to be forgotten. rest in peace ray, you are dearly missed. lots of love, always. Louie Vaccaro, tenor, las vegas.

He made this song his own. Not better or worse than Robeson. But it's a ray Charles song. That's a true artist. You know him anywhere

I used to love Ray until he showed himself as a jealous racist, i just couldn't believe it. The blind hatred spewing from him was shocking, especially considering that I've never heard any other artist so berate anyone else in the industry, regardless of how they may have even really felt, it was totally classless 😳
