Peerless ……..such a talented man. No one else came close.

If only the rest of the world (outside the UK) could have known this man's incredible talent while he was still with us. Just pure, ventriloquial perfection. A master of the craft. I'm one of those Americans who only recently discovered him, thanks to KZread. I only wish there was more...

I worked with Ray Alan 1st December 1990 in Maidstone, Kent.With other artists on the bill.I remember that date as it was the last time my mum and dad saw me on stage backing a show (organist).What a charming man he was and so easy to work with.Sadly missed.He was the best ventriloquist the uk has ever had.

"In all the time I've known you, only once have I seen you sober." "In all the time I've know YOU, only twice have I seen you once!" 😄 Even ad-libbing as Lord Charles when the baby starts crying. Ray Alan remains the best ventriloquist I've ever seen. He was funny, and always came across as someone who would be gentlemanly and pleasant if you met him. I love the way he aged lord Charles as he himself aged, too.

The impression of the green duck was amazing. The Lord Charles pauses in disbelief made the interchange so real Ray Alan was ingenious. Thank you.

Privileged to have met Lord Charles after Ray had sadly passed. I admit I was a little star struck! Would have loved to have seen this master live.

His art fitted him like a glove!

Kinell. I would have given him more applause than that. He deserved a standing ovation!

One of my favourite ventriloquists from my childhood besides Keith Harris! 😂

A huge talent, sorely missed, and I was going to say such a funny performer, but truth be told, this is a double act! 😁 It's a nice touch too, that as Ray Alan aged, so did Lord Charles.

I regret to say I’ve only recently discovered Ray Alan (and company) and am entranced by his talent and humour. Charming and so f***ing funny! I wish the chap was still among us. RIP

I wish I'd taped the whole show that day as he had the entire audience in absolute stiches at the end of the act. Unfortunately I was getting low on tape.

No Vent has ever held adult audience like Ray did. RIP

Ray Alan was always on BBC light entertainment shows in the 1970s his ventriloquist skills charm with an audience and great writing made his a firm favourite with small children right up to grandparents age groups ... Innocent music hall fun made for 70s family viewing

No other ventriloquist comes close to Ray Allen. I love how Lord Charles became grey in later years.

that guy had some serious talent. and the big guy behind him wasn't bad either.

Sad that such an incredible ventriloquist as Ray Allen had to play gigs like this

I just learned about this amazing man (I'm an American) so, I'm pretty behind the times. I did ventriloquism as a teenager to my mid-twenties. It does look sad, yes, however, I'm sure Ray, being the consummate professional, cut his career teeth on tough, unappreciative audiences on his way up the success ladder. You could tell he knew what he was doing and there were laughs in that video for sure. I'm also sure that Ray, if he were still with us, would agree that audience was tough, but, as an entertainer, it's all part of the territory. An amazing man! Wished I had met him.

When not working Lord Charles would sit there for hours on end motionless almost catatonic just staring off into space, Ray never saw him drink but the increasingly slurred performances must've been a strain to keep covering for, fair play to Ray for carrying him for so long

Imagine him today on B.G.T... he'd blow them all away.... . 😅😅😅

Thanks my mistake - nobody else notified me - now corrected!

It's widely reported that Lord Charles was the first vent's dummy to have a personal microphone. Ray makes this all look so easy and impromptu, but he'd been doing it for fifty years. Some say that Lord Charles was cremated when he lost his voice.

In the clip with the two of them on the Monkey Bobhouse show (as Lord Charles put it), which is here on KZread both of them are indeed wearing clip-on microphones! I thought that was a really neat little touch.
