RAW RC FOOTAGE: The Story of My FIRST BACKYARD RC TRACK

The first Backyard RC Track I built for myself ended up seeing 5 different layouts over the 2 years we lived at our first house. It was built into the side of a hill and served as not only a fun place to run my rc cars but also great practice and in 2019 I was able to win 2 championships at one of the most competitive club series' in the North West. What started as a small 14th scale track evolved into a really fun 10th scale track that was just big enough for an 8th scale buggy! In the video you'll see me run a Team Associated 14B, as well as my Tekno Mini Truggy, SCT410.3, and my Tekno and Serpent 8th scale electric buggies!

Tekno ET410: amzn.to/3NhIlAX
Tekno SCT410.3: amzn.to/3KV5eYM
Tekno EB48 2.0: amzn.to/36rpQc9
*** These are all kits, require additional parts to run.
Components in my ET410
Motor: amzn.to/3vXa5UV
Speed Control: amzn.to/3I1cX5Q
WARNING: THIS MOTOR/ESC COMBO IS OVERKILL. A smaller setup like a 5.5 turn motor is good. The Tekin guys run Pro 2 motors. I like a little extra power when I need it.
Servo: amzn.to/366FFVu
Radio: Sanwa M12S RS
Favorite Tires: Proline Holeshots
Wanting to try RC? Here are a couple RTR cars I like:
LC Racing 1/14 Truggy: usa.banggood.c....
Losi Mini Stadium Truck: www.amainhobbi....
Both of those trucks are great starter trucks but aren't big enough to race most public tracks.
Lap Monitor Personal Timing System: lapmonitor.com...

I really like seeing the evolution of your track over the years. I'm about to start mine in a large pasture that has a hill on one side. I hadn't thought of going up the hill as well! I'm also planning on installing a platform, but not at the beginning. I have a med/large tractor with bucket and box blade; but I don't have a backhoe. More shovel work for me! Thank you!

You'll do great with the tractor and then some raking. Don't be afraid of the hill. I'm just putting together a video about my track at our new place I've been working on for the better part of 3 year s

That is a sweet track. Looks technical, I can see how it helped groom you for a competition win. Landscaping and control deck look very nice as well!

That's a podcast or blog question if I've ever heard one... it's tough to say. I think I'm just sharper and my muscle memory is super strong because I run 5-10 packs a week if the weather allows it. I wouldn't say I've gotten a ton faster, I could already lay down some fast laps, but the better muscle memory allows me to find fast laps faster. I've had more success in races since having my own track(s). But I also know a bit part of that was growing a bit as a competitor. I was better prepared and had a stronger mental approach the last season I raced for a championship. I would ultimately say that was what gave me success, but a practice track definitley helped!

  • @TheRacinJason

That track was pretty narrow because of limited space. Around 5 feet wide up to 7 or 8 feet in some spots. My new larger track has 10-12 foot lanes for the most part
