I was a student of this Guru for 12 years! BABA ALI AKBAR KHAN, is the sarod player here with Ravi. Ravi learned from BABAs father, Alaudin Khan, Baba & his oldest son AASHISH passed the raga knowledge down to me. it was the most azazing experoence nm of my life to learn from the GURU OF GURUS.. he changed my life inside and out with his ancient timeless knowledge of music and life. THANK YOU BABA! WE LOVE YOU, All of yor students. I will post here amazing stories that Noone would know unless you were his student..memories that I will treasure forever and pass down to my students and children..please enjoy and be blessed..pranams

Lucky enough to see Khan many times back in the 70s in Delhi, along with other greats, Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Panalal Ghosh, Bismila Khan, Subramaniam and many a jugulbandi was heard. We lived by Humayun's. Music, India, eternity became one....

I saw and heard Ravi Shankar I think in 1984 in a great concert in Varanasi, while travelling India for a year. He began to play at about 4 in the night after a lot of very great musicians and it was the absolute climax. Since then I love and adore his divine music ... and i really need it , when I'm a bit down and broke as today, because a very good friend left again for travelling the world. Thank you for sharing !

A very long time ago, I was given this album by a Fulbright Scholar from India. I was a struggling student working my way through university. I had a paper due the next day and a time crunch. I played this album, on LP, over and over all night. The next day, I turned in the paper and later learned I got an "A". While I would not recommend waiting until the last minute for anyone to do anything, I credit this music for my success.

This music resonates internationally! The videographer for Raviji's biographical film--a westerner-initially did not want to get involved in the filming, as he could not appreciate the music. However, he was encouraged to listen to some of his music and he did. During one musical piece, he was moved to profuse tears, whereupon he decided to do the film!

In memory of Baba Allauddin Khan within months of his grand departure to the Gandharvalok. This was once in a lifetime performance for it was in memory of the master who had brought them (Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan) both up into musical maturity from early innocence in the art.

Remember when we were all just brothers & sisters? Less wars, less conflict. So much more relaxing when people decide to handle their own lives. Who needs the 'class' of people who believe they have the right to tell us what to do? Let's just live in peace, keep on learning from good masters like these and enjoy Life. Why is such a simple program so difficult? As Jimi Hendrix once said, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." That is where I am going...

This music has nothing to do with Hinduism. Infact Ravishankar was a Hindu and Ali Akbar Khan, his ex brotther-in-law was a Muslim. Furthermore, if you trace back Ali Akbar Khan's history, his great great grandfathers were Hindu Bramhins (top of the caste system in Hindus), but, they had to convert to Islam during the Islamic rule of Bengal. I do not know if this music has anything to do with God (given I am an aethist), but, certainly, this music can transcend you to an alternate universe where you can take a deeper look into your soul and get an in-depth understanding of WHO YOU ARE!

Byrun: This music resonates internationally! The videographer for Raviji's biographical film--a westerner-initially did not want to get involved in the filming, as he could not appreciate the music. However, he was encouraged to listen to some of his music and he did. During one musical piece, he was moved to profuse tears, whereupon he decided to do the film!

This Music has power to evoke emotions and cultural conditioning will broadly decide what emotions and the depth of emotions are experienced. Apart from this emotion evoking there is a higher aesthetic beauty of pure pattern creating is achieved by outstanding Artists. In someways this Music goes beyond Spirituality, My subjective understanding.!!!

Light some incense and get comfortable it will be an heroic ride through the trials and tribulations of lord Krishna himself as he battles the vimana in the skies over India some 5,000 years ago. It is here and now in this exquisite music and if you close your eyes you will be transported to the land of unending love, happiness, and complete joy~~~
