Raven Sutherland Jingle dress dance
The jingle dress dance comes from the Ojibwe people in Ontario and is known to be a healing dance. As Indigenous people, we believe in the healing of this medicine.
I was called to the jingle dress dance at a very young age and have now been a jingle dancer for over 10 years. For me, dancing means healing, love, and the honour of carrying on such an important gift given to us by the Creator.

Chi-Miigwech for sharing! Not sure people will realise the, actual, weight of these Jingle Dresses and the stamina it takes to dance these intricate steps, so delightfully, wonderfully and expressively. A highly commendable credit to her Nation.

MKGuy 4u, I was ready to make the same comment but I noticed you beat me to it. This girl is so beautiful and a very gracious dancer. She shows her talent while dancing with a very heavy skirt. Aho!

@@carmenromero5230 Thank you for your reply and further comment, Carmen. A'ho! We are certainly in agreement. The movement and grace are poetic, a symphony of motion, harmony and balance.

@@ianmelonie6440 My comment was a generalisation. Interesting that you have helped to make a Jingle Dress, for a friend of yours and as a consequence, are aware of the weight of them and the physical effort it would take to dance so elegantly when wearing regalia of this style. Thank you for your contribution.

Oh yes! Dance is used in so many cultures on so many continents as a way of honoring the creator and of warding off negative or unclean spirits and as a poweful force in battle. Stunning dress. Love the color. ♾
As a visual impaired person this is my favorite dance. It gets intense the more women are added.

when I die I wanna come back as 1 of those little jingles and just hang around all day
Indeed, I enjoyed watching her dance and it was beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
I saw one in a museum! THANKS, very Awesome! A dress as a percussion instrument.
You’re my people, I love you all ❤️🌹😘🙏
Beautiful rhythm. It took a while to become apparent, but the rhythm drew me in. Energizing and calming at the same time. Thank you.
Wow, thank you for sharing this. The jingles sound so different out in nature on soil, among the trees. I can hear it as water running over stones, in small waterfalls. It sounds like there is chanting at a distance, and that also sounds like nature. Everything together sound alike an amplification of natural forest sounds. ❤
No wonder this is a healing dance, for someone going through something right.now..hearing and seeing this being done. Really brings me some kind of healing. ❤️ Amazing, glad to see that there are still traditional dances being kept

I love Jingle dancers, that is a weighty dress, but she represents her tribe beautifully, yes, those steps are intricate and hard to do. I know how hard, but so much joy and honor to witness her dedication ❤

beautiful hearing the drums and singing in the background, and this dancer danced into the forest to make the video for all of us that need to connect to our culture, and are unable to attend Pow Wows in person. amazing.
So very glad to see younger people keeping tradition alive. Thank you for this very pleasing insight into the culture.
Beautiful! This would be beautiful regardless, but purple is my favorite color, so that makes it even more special.
I was posting about a situation for information purposes and got physically ill. I remember that anytime I feel this way When I hear and see the jingle dress dance it heals me. So I am glad To see this. Thank you

I can see this dance in my daughter in law. Her Grandad was native he came to England WW2. Her hair is so thick and grows so fast. I admire her greatly and feel blessed to have her and my grandchildren by her It’s hard to explain but she is like this dance ?
Wonderful foot work with dancing ❤
Gracias for sharing Raven, we appreciate it. Que bella eres. Dios te bendiga.

Absolutely stunning ❤
I only have three photographs of my Shawnee grandmother Wa-apa-tee-wis ("White Feather"). She was born in a tipe village near Old Shawneetown, Illinois, about 1884, and died of pneumonia in 1929 in Indianapolis at the age of about 44. Pity I never knew her, my father's mother First photo was her high school graduation portrait, taken in 1902, hand color tinted, and she was made up to look like a white woman. She hated it. Then, a photo of her in sepiatone taken at the Marion County Fair in Indianapolis in 1916, where she was dancing under a tree in a pretty buckskin dress with a few shells on it, holding a tambourine. The last photo I have of her was taken at her wedding to my grandfather, James Harrison Long (1886-1963) in 1917, also sepiatone, showing her in a wedding dress she made herself, of indigenous styles and materials. My father lovingly wrote "Mother" across the top of the photo. I did, however, know her real biological brother, Russell Running Horse, aka: Russell Morgan Fleetwood (1886-1976) who lived in Indianapolis from 1920 to his passing. I met him in 1959 on a family reunion trip there from Los Angeles with my Dad, at age 12, and I spent the day with my great uncle Russell, who told me stories of our Shawnee heritage, and he gave me the name Wapahilo ("Soaring Eagle") which I proudly display at Pow-Wows. I love to participate in the Round Dance, the Sacred Circle of our People, and enjoy watching the dancers in all their finery.
Завораживает.
