I have loved this short opera since I was a child in the 70s. This staging unfortunately is very far from the original storyline.

What a dreadful staging of such beautiful piece. Why do directors always make such nonsense decisions… the story is quite clear and here, it doesn’t make sense at all! Stop trying to “innovate “ or make a statement and just stick to the story!!

The story is about a naughty child and the abused toys, books and furnishings that come to life and teach him a lesson about being good. All these directions are in the libretto, if you care to read it. So I fail to see how this does not "stick to the story". The only statement they're making is with the methods they use to portray inanimate objects coming to life and singing. The fantasy is the point. Yes, no?

@@slowpainful sorry, no I have read the libretto countless times since my teens and I don’t see anything looking similar to what is described in it! It’s supposed to be a fantasy, magical… it’s not!
