First of all I’d like to give a big up to Jake for doing this channel and his shows with thoughtful presentation & opinions for all us grandads & grandmas up and down the country still feeling the love for this era & genre! I’d also like to kick Jake in the shins for extending my overdraft for adding to what I thought was a damn decent collection! 😂 like it says on the tin, id like to reminisce…….. from 91 til 2000 I loved most genres of the underground scene…..what saddened me was the dividing of the music (it is what it is 🤷🏼‍♂️) I won’t lie, I liked the happier tip of stuff and even I rolled my eyes and smiled at some of the double Gloucester that was churned out but in all genres there is some utter shite amongst way too many gems! My fave DJ was Easygroove, had an innate ability to bring dark core, jungle, happier piano stuff with some devastating techno in one set! Littlecote house, hyperspace!! The piano/strings gave you a different rush/buzz and to this day still does……the darkcore stuff for me (don’t get shooting me!) gave you a different buzz, still good but different same goes for techno………what I do acknowledge you don’t get the anthems and gems without putting up with the not so good stuff………still you have to give props to the guys that still doing it today even when I was a spotty nutcase! Slipmatt, ratpack, Ellis Dee (too many to mention) suppose what I’m trying to say is……… thank you for this era that will never leave me and has helped me through so many tough times that life throws at you!! Most importantly to the artists & producers for creating so many wonderful choons for us to enjoy and still enjoy and still put a smile on our faces as when I look back wasn’t that what it was always about…. Peace & love, hopefully one day the likes of fantazia or dreamscape will resurrect to accommodate all us relics with capacity for zimmer frames, defies and the occasional statin! 😁

I know its not hardcore mate but watch 'Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank | The story behind the song' It shows all the old equipment he used to make his tunes and most producers of the 90s rave scene would have used same equipment. If you are interested in how tunes have been made since the electronic era then this is a good one, search youtube for 'Oldskool Amiga Rave Walkthrough Part 2 of 2 - OctaMED' the concept is the same in all daws. The most used sample in Jungle/ breakbeat and dnb history is the Amen break, its been used billions of times, chopped and changed, Source wiki. The Amen break is a drum break that has been widely sampled in popular music. It comes from the 1969 track "Amen, Brother" by the American soul group the Winstons, released as the B-side of the 1969 single "Color Him Father". The drum break lasts seven seconds and was performed by Gregory Coleman. Sampling. In the 1980s, with the rise of hip hop, DJs began using turntables to loop drum breaks from records, which MCs would rap over.[3] In 1986, "Amen Brother" was included on Ultimate Breaks and Beats, a compilation of old funk and soul tracks with clean drum breaks intended for DJs.[3] Salt-N-Pepa's 1986 single "I Desire" had one of the earliest uses of the Amen break. A number of releases in 1988 took it into the mainstream, including "Straight Outta Compton" by N.W.A and "Keep It Going Now" by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock.[4] In "King of the Beats" by Mantronix (1988), the Amen break is "chopped up, layered and processed so that the drums became central to the track rather than simply a rhythmic bedding".[3] The Amen break has been in used in thousands of tracks, making it one of the most widely sampled tracks in history.[3] It was widely sampled in British dance music in the early 1990s, especially in drum and bass and jungle.[5][3] It has been used in multiple genres, including rock music by acts such as Oasis, and in commercials and television themes such as Futurama.[3][6] The Amen break became popular as it was easy to manipulate and offered a simple way to create jungle music.[3] The English drummer Tom Skinner cited the appealing "crunch" of the recording quality.[3] Producers have manipulated it by altering its pitch or speed, or re-ordering its components to mimic ghost notes or other effects.[3] Now the computing power of the Atari and Amiga lol The Amiga 500 CPU ran at a whooping 7.16 MHz which was Amazing at the time but the Atari CPU ran at a lightening speed of 8+ MHz and being as the Atari had a better sound chip they sold double compared to Amiga.

Some absolute belters on this mate, alot of quiality tunes!!! There was so much experimenting going on in sampling for the 90s rave revolution, I was 15 when it all started to kick off 🥳 So many experimental amazing tunes 90 onwards ❤❤❤❤❤ I used to love the bee and remixes and the exorcist which turned out to be earliy dj Hype whos an absolute Legend!!!! It still boggles my mind these tunes were produced using a expensive sampler and either an atari ST 520 or an amiga 500 . Atari was more favourable due to its 16 bit sound chip vs amiga 8 bit, both machines only had half a meg of ram as standard but could be boosted to 4 mb for St or 2 mb for Amiga. I remember paying £80 for 1.5 mb expansion for my amiga 600 and was well happy 😂 Specs!!!! Amiga April 1987 $1,870 to £499 worldwide, units sold 2.6 million. 1,160,500 units in Germany (including Amiga 500 Plus sales) Media 880 KB floppy disks Operating system AmigaOS v1.2 - 1.3 (upgradable to current version if enough RAM is installed) CPU Motorola 68000 @ 7.16 MHz (NTSC) 7.09 MHz (PAL) Memory 512 or 1024 KB 150 ns (maximum 9 to 138 MB, depending on upgrades)[a][b] Display 736×567i 4 bpp (PAL) 736×483i 4 bpp (NTSC) 368×567i 6 bpp (PAL) 368×483i 6 bpp (NTSC) ..................................................................

@@rave-vinyl-reminiscence Nice one, glad you liked it mate, it was absolutely phenomenal what they were able to achieve! Don't forget all the samples they had to make that were saved to half a meg floppy disks lol, I didnt mention the cpu power the Atari and Amiga had, Ill get back to that lol, that in itself is mind boggling mate!!!! The program they used that was extremely popular it was called fruity loops which is the original fl studio. I also read that because of piracy fruity loops/fl studio didn't make a profit for over 15 years but they stayed with the concept.

Good Tidings Jake Hammer..... Nice to hear some of the darker stuff, I must admit that as much as the euphoric, hands in the air, happy , smiley stuff is nice, we all like going underground and attacking the ground with the moody stuff too. Thanks for introducing me to DJ Fokus, I must've missed that one in the day, must've been preoccupied mentally elsewhere, great 12" I'll have to keep my eye out for that one. Jack Smooth & Alex Hazzard's tunes are classics and and this reminds me of the fabled Green Apple Radio and I don't think Doc Scott made a bad tune..... Must agree with @louisthedjdon - Ratty & Tango's Final Conflict is a dark anthem, but I would also add the following: Top Buzz - Living in Darkness, Rap & Aston - Vertigo and also Tango & Fallout - Intrigue, but we all have our favourites don't we (R.I.P. DJ Tango). Get you playing the Carl Cox mix of Made You Dance, this is verging on the edge of Techno, just puts me back to Tribal Gathering 6.00am Carl Cox, Think he mixed Cosmotrash (Lenny Dee Remix) in there somewhere.... Lovely jubley I was waiting for the Darkside 👍💯👍 the beginning of Drum n Bass and Jungle in its present form. Origin Unkown, Vally of the Shadows, The Dark Stranger, the Terminator tune (Goldie) metal Heads original and remix. I would say it’s beautifully dystopian…ie picture a land scape on a distant planet very much like earth but with a sinister undertone, the skys purple not blue, there are two suns but they are pink. The landscape is semi desert with some plant life and the leaves are moving in the breeze very slightly. It’s beautiful but Deadly and you don’t know what’s going to appear at any given moment so you opt to stand where you are as it’s safe in that spot. 😂 best way to sum it all up, A beautiful dystopian nightmare
