I have been aware of Raul’s version for many years! It is the definitive version hands down!

He is amazing, I don't know how those ladies with the violins didn't get up and hug him.

This song was my first introduction to Raul's singing. I had only seen him in Law and Order: SVU. I sat on the couch and just cried, it was so beautiful and emotional. And then I went down the rabbit hole to find out more about this incredible performer and man. Raul never disappoints. Thank you for your honest reaction to his Hallelujah....I was right there with you.

I love that he did the verses most covers don’t include. Made it a much more narratively cohesive song. Gorgeous performance, and shows why we will always need musical theatre 🥰

I’ve said in comments under every cover of Hallelujah I’ve ever come across that Raul Esparza’s version of Hallelujah is the best I’ve heard to this day. Nobody sings this song better than Raul.

He recently did an amazing performance at Miscast singing Come To Your Senses

He has this effect in his voice that is actually called the Esparza growl, heard incredibly well in his rendition of "Being Alive" from Stephen Sondheim's "Company". He can switch from a raw vocal fry straight into a pure operatic vowel, and it's showcased beautifully in that song in particular. The man has been nominated for every possible Tony award an actor on Broadway can receive...but he's never won. It's an absolute crime!! I am so mad he's never won.

It really is a crime. Fin and Rollins should get right on it!

Utterly ground moving performance! Raúl definitely puts every ounce of his being into this song when he songs it, as he does every time he sings. You, no doubt, will get comments from several of us who are members of his Facebook fan groups. We are a fun bunch and I would like to invite you to any and all of them. We would be honored to have you as a group member! Thank you so much for your reaction to Raúl singing Hallelujah!

O.M.G.! Thank you SO much! I knew you would absolutely love Raul Esparza's performance of "Hallelujah." Many of his fans consider this his finest performance. You are correct when you surmised that Raul was in New York during 9/11. He had just left Rocky Horror to star in Tick, Tick..Boom! when 9/11 occurred. He has discussed the impact of that day on him and the production, and the special significance some of the songs took on. You mentioned not having experienced his "rock" vocals beyond his Rocky Horror performance. His performance of "Hair" is one that would truly delight you and would make a great Behind the Curves Reacts video. I'm going to watch your reaction again. I may have more to comment on later! Thank you again, so much!
