I once met a man from Nottingham who had Bedlington’s not a drop of kennel club blood in his dogs he had tan ones black ones semi hard coats too very steady dogs I went with him and a a friend out hunting foxes. Wow these dogs were very good at there job to say the least. I lost contact with him in the early eighties he had photos of hi dad and grandparents in I think 1907 with these dogs. I heard he only gave pups away never sold any I have been told some went to Hungary and are still being used but to hunt pigs. I remember going to his parents house near the Nottingham forest football ground. I wonder I& he still has any of these old fashioned Bedlington’s ?

Yeah they're both brilliant ratters so are borders and it's always useful to have a lurcher or whippet cross if any escape from the terriers.

That's some of the happiest time in a terriers life i bet, scoring a rat and the competition with it's buddies! Good times!

While it might make the dogs happy, the dogs also deserve to be loved and not used to hunt rats everyday. While this may have been useful in the 1800s because that is what they were used for back than, now people have discovered new ways to hunt for rats if that is something they take pleasure in! And just sayin grow all of you saying that the dogs would be useless for this and the guy could have easily done all of that, he couldn’t. These dogs were originally bred for hunting for mice hence why their snouts are the way they are and do you really think that this dude has the same sense of smell to be able to find mice?? And keep in mind these dogs were bred for that back when people had to eat mice. So there’s really no reason for people to be using these dogs to hunt for mice now.

The human was the MVP tho and should get to take the rat home.
