    @@hersirnordic2814Absolutley right! At least it is a quick, humane death for the rat. Unlike chemicals that can cause a slow, painful horrific end and end up leeching chemicals into the soil and local eco systems that can affect other non vermin.

    In our country, we have a problem with stray puppies. Dogs breed here like crazy. We use the same method to kill them off and maintain the stray population with the use of trained wolves.

    Seems like there are way more rats then those dogs can handle must be 5000 on that farm. My inlaws always had barn cats. The skinny smaller cats killed the most rats and mice. Dogs kill quickly cats tend to keep their pray alive while they play with them.

    @@Mike-01234 I rescued a ginger Tom cat kitten when at uni. Bought him home and called him Fred, (or more to the point 'Fred the b*stard' as he grew up). He was a prolific mouser, ratter or anthing else that p*ssed him off including Possums. If you heard the cat flap go of an evening you had to be quick!. If he was coming in backside first, you knew he was dragging something in that was usually still alive (rats mainly, the neighbors kept chooks). he'd let go what he'd caught, hop up on the kitchen bench and watch you chase whatever it was. 🤣

    Like people keep sayin- it’s great to see working dogs doing what they were made to do. I’d say for anyone looking staffies make excellent ratters too. I’ve got one, and had an old shed full of my landlords garbage that I wasn’t allowed to clean… it was a rat haven. If one stepped foot outside that shed it was a ~10 second countdown until it was in rat heaven. She must have caught over 100 rats in the few years we lived there, no training, no rewarding- just instinct. And there was no suffering, they were already dead by the time the shaking started 😅

    I have a dog that is part Jack Russell and part Bichon, and we had a groundhog show up in our garden, and she chased that devil up under the shed, and actually dug under the shed to get it. I was shocked at how fearless she was, and traded a few bites with it as well. I got her to come back out from under the shed because I didn't want her to get injured, (the groundhog was a decent sized one), and she started barking at it as I took a garden hose and tried to flush it out. She started howling and would look up at me for approval before lunging at it when it would stick it's nose out from under the shed. I had a doctor's appointment that day so we had to break off the hunt, but I certainly didn't see her as a "sissy" for sure. She has spirit like your dogs do, and she's probably about the size of your white dog. We haven't seen the groundhog back since then either.

  • @kittye8340

    @kittye8340

    Жыл бұрын

    @@jonasmcguire3589 Rats don't really carry rabies often since they are small and die almost right away from a bite from an infected animal. The transferable disease that should be worried about mostly is leptospirosis which can infect humans and dogs/cats. However, there is a vaccine to protect dogs. These dogs are likely vaccinated. And dogs can be treated for the illness, though it's dangerous and can be fatal. I think ultimately, the pros outweigh the cons. Dogs were meant to do this kind of thing. They enjoy it. Rats are invasive and carry disease. Killing them with poison is not eco-friendly. This is just better for all involved. And with vaccines for rat-born illnesses that may infect the dogs, there isn't much reason to say why we shouldn't. We could also control Australias rabbit population. Another invasive species. Although the bush is much harder to navigate.

    What do you guys do with the rats ? Are they used for food for other animals or destroyed for fertilizer ?
