I literally don't remember doing this in AP Chem but this is so helpful because my teacher put it on a homework assignment and the AP exam is coming up. Thanks!

Mr. Romero, I have always been confused about the "overall rate of reaction". There is a problem in the National US chemistry olympiad in 2014, Problem 5 letter c , given experimental data and asked to calculate K, the answer key just used the rate of formation of of No2 instead of dividing it by 2 to use the overall rate of reaction to calculate K. Are they correct or should I still use the overall rate of reaction to calculate the value of K from experimental data?

Hi there. I'm so sorry I didn't respond sooner. I hadn't been checking the comments on my videos consistently. The rate constant, k, is a constant of proportionality that when used in the experimentally determined rate law, will lead to the calculation of rates of disappearance or appearance for the reaction in question. However, the rate constant is not the rate itself. After completing parts a and b for the question you mentioned, you should have the experimentally determined rate law. Rearrange the equation for the rate law so you get an equation for the rate constant, k. Then plug the data from any of the three trials to calculate the rate constant.

THE DRAWING SHOWS THE PROGRESS OF REACTION 2A-> A2: ibb.co/12cgBL3 Based on the drawing, conclude at what time the composition of the reaction mixture will correspond to drawing D. I do not understand the procedure of this task, so I ask for help. Thank you

Thanks for your help, Sir. Why is the rate of disappearance of oxygen [-5.51x10^-3]? I thought rates are positive.

For rates of disappearance of reactants, since the concentration of the reactant diminishes over time, this would produce a negative slope when plotting the concentration vs time for the reactant (though the shape of the plot will vary depending on the order of the reaction with respect to that reactant.) The negative sign adds mathematical context for the rate as a rate of disappearance.

The coefficients for both reactants are the same as each other. As a result, the rate of consumption for both reactants will also be the same.
