Well sorry to disappoint you but.... sultan can be pretty strong if given enough gold or time... As for the rat, his attack army caps at 20 archers and 20 spearmen or something like that and his castle size is random so no matter how much gold he has he might build a crappy hut, or an actual castle (very rare).

Sultan doesn't use his gold. At least that what I noticed. He keeps it stored and doesn't recruit many troops

@@ALGammash wrong he uses it at the start intensely and his first few attacks are much stronger if he has surplus of gold, but then later he doesn't make his armies any bigger so gold piles up

Rat's icon still makes me feel uneasy even after about 15 years.

Ah come on Sultan has Arabian Swordsmen. The only way Sultan could have lost was if Rat had 50 Crossbowmen, but Rat makes worse Archers and worse melee attackers so it was obvious. Also his castle is awful. Probably the only thing that holds Sultan down is wasting money on Slingers, though they did good in this game

innaccurate conditions. Sultan is able to max out his positive fear factor with such little population thanks to no economy. besides actually buying soldiers beyond spearman and archers his soldiers are 2x more HP.

I always forget that the rat sounds even more pathetic in english.

To be fair he wasn’t even supposed to be a lord, he’s the bastard of Duc De Puce Sr. his mom was a servant and after the Duc family died he was the only one that was “legitimate” enough to be in charge. Also he’s somewhat sensible for a lord of a few small counties, if he was to choose a better friend/mentor than Snake, he would’ve became better than what he ended up being

i was really fanboing a rat a little. from my experience, rat with lot of money usually pumps shit tons of spearmans once his wall is broken. not the case here tho.

Dang it, I never would have guessed that arabian swordsmen are stronger than spearmen.

man, betting on the Rat VS the Sultan is really like betting on the special olympics! :D This'll either go one of two ways, either the Rat's archers will successfully strangle the Sultan's economy and eventually, slowly, painfully, wittle his lord down with spears. Or, more likely in my mind, the Sultan will eventually send enough Arab knights out to kill the Rat Edit: Called it!

Should be called "Sultan The wholesome" :D

i should really start playing this game again. I love to just relax with the castle builder, especially if you use that one default map that has nothing but a patch of stone and zero fertile soil

In campain when confronted to one of those I just sell everything and send assassins cause I ain't got time for this kind of shit :P

Sultan uses proper infantry units and all his soldiers have positive fear factor bonus. This was pretty predictable. He'd be better put against the Snake or maybe even the Pig.

Againist Pig tough Sultan gets completely crushed since Crossbowmen erases most armored units specially Arabian Swordsman also Pig's Macemen trade well againist armored units and also Pigs uses a lot of catapults.

One of the favourite game,

I like Sultan as an ally, but compared to my other options for Arabic allies, he ranks rather low as he uses "early-game" troops. Namely slingers and slaves. I use primarily horse archers.

Sultan doesn't use slaves the only Arabian Lord that uses Slaves as an attack unit is Caliph the other Arabian Lords uses Slaves just to create moat, but Sultán doesn't even use it for that.

But its not 90s game, Stronghold Crusader was released in 2002, first Stronghold in 2001

Rat: literally has no tactical knowledge, I bet he disbands swordsmen for spearmen. Edit: I put in 50 Crusade swordsmen and 50 Arabian archers on his keep in a custom map, he did not disband them but rather serve as his bodyguards, still he never attacked hostiles with a better fighting force

well, Ki dont use Units, which were placed in the editor for attacks, Saladin would use the as the Rat Swordsmen aswell.

**An Even Worse Update** I spawned *an entire regiment* including 1 Horse batallion (around 450 units) 2 Swordsmen batallion (900 units total) 1 Archer batallion (490 units estimate) 1 Macemen Batallion (450 units) 1 Assassin platoon (150 units) Still, the Rat used it as defense. Impenetrable but still!

The only thing that gave Sultan the edge was the fear factor and troop selections. And also know where to spend that gold. One time I donated 1000 gold to the rat because his getting beaten up and he didn't used it.

Fun fact is that Rat is the hardest opponent in orginal Stronghold, try to play Very Hard difficulty and try to reach the lowest loss count possible and you will see that rat missions are the hardest (except castle assault missions like 15).

I think Rats castle played a big difference some of them are a little better that's probably one of his worse. Sultan makes better castles sometimes aswell. Otherwise slingers are probably the best defenceman against spearman because that insane ROF hahaha crossbows and bows are unnecessary.
