I work in pest control. You typically have to use multiple types of traps when there are rats because they are capable of learning how each trap works through trial and error. Amazing animals.

A rat in my sister's nursery was a veteran in avoiding all sorts of traps set there, let alone to slip out of the ol' cage trap put there. It's like it's made out of gas (if cats are liquid, then this rat is gas lol). But once, I caught another in my aunt's house and it worked because that rat had probably never seen a cage trap before or eaten grilled salted fish. Told my sister to replace that cage with a new one or use my grilled salted fish idea, but it still wasn't caught.

That half truck pulling the plane out of the water is very common at lakehood in alaska (the largest floatplane base in the world). They use it because the turn radius is much greater when pulling a floatplane around. They are typically used to put float planes in and out of water that don’t have amphibious floats.
@Vinemaple
11 ай бұрын
For those who missed it, the cab and engine of the truck are the very back of the vehicle. The front of the vehicle is a custom floatplane trailer with two wheels almost hidden under the floatplane's pontoons. It's not going to fall backwards when there's a floatplane on the trailer, and is probably long enough that it never will. Probably turns real funny, though, unless they re-engineered the whole steering system. Why do it? Because the hard part is getting the floatplane on the trailer, I suppose. Once you've done that, it's just backing up a truck that has the cab in back and a load in front, in a marina working yard. Worth it, for the capabilities you get.

Rats are highly intelligent problem solvers. Mice, not so much. I had attic rats for 5 years and really struggled to eliminate them. You get one or two, then the others learn and adapt. Had a heck of a time finding where they were getting in also. Little buggers hid their entrance well after I closed up the first one. They started climbing up the AC evaporator line, and would block the hole with insulation after going in which made it very hard to find as light would not shine through. Yes, they were actually opening and closing their "door" into the attic. After 5 long years of battle, I finally won...

With rats, you have to use various types of traps, not just one kind. What works with some rats won't work with others. The best solution is keep a clean house and get a cat that hunts. But even if the cat doesn't hunt, just the cat's smell will drive rodents away.

For those wondering, the tune being played on the bugle was “To The Colors” It’s played on US military installations or other military events as the colors of the United States are being raised on a flagpole, it’s part of military regulation to snap to attention and render a salute [the latter if outdoors, uniformed, and military personnel.. personnel in civilian attire and civilians place right hand over the heart] during the song’s duration and the flag is at its proper mast/staff height or the command “Order Arms” is rendered

The truck with the bed cut off is actually pretty come in Alaska from the trip I took there many years back. The truck is always a 4x4 that has the rear end cut off and the rear driveshaft is disconnected. The vehicles are alway attached to the thing the float plane is riding on and the only two reasons to explain why it is done like this instead of a trailer (that I can think of) are balance (difficult to balance a plane on a tandem trailer) and the Frankenstein’s monster of a vehicle acts like a large forklift to better park the aircraft as you cannot taxi the aircraft out of the water there.
1:42 sideserf one of my favorite KZreadrs 😊 also 2:54 that was right around the corner from my street. SLC, UT. A freeway overpass was being replaced. They built the new structure next to the existing one, then took down the old structure and slid the new one into place. Freeway traffic rerouted to go through town to avoid that mile marker for three days during the deconstruction and positioning.
2:20 This is a specially designed vehicle for towing seaplanes. It’s a large metal frame with the cab and engine from a normal pickup truck attached on one said facing inward. The other set of wheels are where the frame attaches to the floats of the plane itself. On its own, it sort of looks like just the frame of the truck with the cab rotated 180°.

The tug at 2:22 has a solid frame with two axles just like any other vehicle. The other axle is beneath the floats on the plane if you look closely, so it's perfectly balanced, just a little weight out in front like a bus.

Although it looks wierd, the only wierd part about that tow is that the cab is backwards. As the cab is pointing towards its front-axle, wich is *several* meters ahead of it. Pretty creative if you'd ask me. It actually looks pretty nicely done. Although, I do wonder how well you could see while driving on a road?
@the5thmusketeer215
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the explanation… Clearly, this is a purpose-designed vehicle, perfect for the job it’s built for. Once you see it, it makes perfect sense, but - until you do see it - it’s quite baffling, because the second axle isn’t where we all expect it to be! 🤔

The clip where they moved the bridge was taken like 20 minutes from my house! Got to watch some of the process in the daytime and it was really neat how they did it! They built a brand new bridge right next to the old one, it was sort of cool to see a bridge to nothing on both sides. Afterwards, they tore the old one down, and used the good ol’ one drop of dawn and grease is gone method to slide the new one they built right into place. 😎
