Rashida Tlaib Nearly Brings Rep. Meadows to Tears for Racist Act | NowThis

Rep. Rashida Tlaib told this GOP congressman that using a Black Trump employee as a ‘prop’ was a racist act in itself - he responded by demanding her words be struck from the record, nearly in tears.
» Subscribe to NowThis: go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe
In US news, Rep. Rashida Tlaib made headlines yesterday during the Michael Cohen hearing before the House Oversight Committee in US Congress. While questioning Michael Cohen, GOP Congressman Rep Mark Meadows brought out Black Trump employee Lynne Patton to disprove Trump's racism. Prop moves like this were not ok with Rashida Tlaib. Congress woman Tlaib called out Mark Meadows for using Lynne Patton as a racist prop calling it a racist act which angered Rep Meadows, who asked her words to be struck from the record. Tlaib was not insisting that Mark Meadows racist but rather it was a racist act. The Michael Cohen testimony was a big day in Congress and in current events.

Meadows has never shown that he's the brightest bulb in the lamp. More than that, he has no filter to what he says beyond making his personal point as to his own welfare and his own political agenda (lately, a Trump-driven agenda; that's not an attack on Trump, just an acknowledgement of the sorts of things that Meadows says).

What is a person to do when accused of racism? Do you people just not get it? What possible defense can a man conjure up? The accused does not have to prove themselves innocent; it is the accuser that has to prove the accused guilty. And this woman throwing accusations around like it's Christmas is the problem, not him. I for one am compassionate for a white man with family members of color that is accused of racism. I mean jeez, he could be married to black woman and still be called a racist. Should he not take an offense to that? That someone would show NO respect for his family with such a stupid accusation. He then justified bringing that individual without using race.

That's what I'm thinking. She just showed up and didn't talk at all. If you're not talking then what are you doing there? Why are you even there? If we go back to when black and white people started to get along up till now and white people said I'm not racist I have a black friend or black friends or if they said I'm not racist I have a black person working for my company or I have black people working for my company. If white people did that from back then up till now racism would be an entirely different story in this country.

He probably didn’t think he would actually get called out as directly as she did, so he went into panic mode and made an attempt to derail the conversation. Textbook 'white fragility'. Like waves on sand, their reactions form predictable patterns: they will insist that they “were taught to treat everyone the same,” that they are “color-blind,” that they “don’t care if you are pink, purple, or polka-dotted.” They will point to friends and family members of color, a history of civil-rights activism, or a more “salient” issue, such as class or gender. They will shout and bluster. They will cry. In 2011, DiAngelo coined the term “white fragility” to describe the disbelieving defensiveness that white people exhibit when their ideas about race and racism are challenged-and particularly when they feel implicated in white supremacy. Why, she wondered, did her feedback prompt such resistance, as if the mention of racism were more offensive than the fact or practice of it? Our largely segregated society is set up to insulate whites from racial discomfort, so that they fall to pieces at the first application of stress-such as, for instance, when someone suggests that “flesh-toned” may not be an appropriate name for a beige crayon. Unused to unpleasantness (more than unused to it-racial hierarchies tell white people that they are entitled to peace and deference), they lack the “racial stamina” to engage in difficult conversations. This leads them to respond to “racial triggers”-the show “Dear White People,” the term “wypipo”-with “emotions such as anger, fear and guilt,” DiAngelo writes, “and behaviors such as argumentation, silence, and withdrawal from the stress-inducing situation.” When a POC tells you something you did was racist, shut up and learn from it.
