Everyone ignoring the fact that for the entire first 45 minutes every time the ball went out to rashford the play completely broke down and both of his goal would have been saved by a half decent goalie. We all know Southgate will bring sterling and mount straight back into the starting line up so I would stop clambering for rashford to start because that means foden will be on the bench.

I think you could argue that Rashfords poor first half was due him playing on his not preferred side of the pitch. After he and Foden switched sides that problem seemed to have resolved.

You are reading all wrong. Problem with England and will eventually catch up with them, is their negativity. No forward passing, sideways, sideways, more sideways. It needed a spark, a risk, a forward run, a positive pass. With that last game only two players were intiawilling to do that, Rashford and Walker. If you look back to the first shot on goal, it was Walker who broke up play, and before that running into space, which allowed rice to make the forward pass to Rashford. Before all that nothing. If you don't take risk, nothing happens, but if you take risk, you will most likely lose possession more times then not.

pickford. shaw stones walker. trippier trent. bellingham rice. foden kane saka. both trent and trippier can be great at stretching the opponents as you cant give them space to get a cross in, saka and foden can roam more, and then we are very solid defensively with so many defensive minded players on the pitch who can seemlessly flow between offense and defense.

  • @J.L.Media.

Think it might be tighter than that. Senegal will be hoping for a sneaky 1-0 and will be happy if the game goes into extra time or penalties so will probably set up quite defensively. I feel that we struggle with that. I still think we will win but only by a goal and not necessarily in regular time.

The U.S handed the group to England effectively by letting Wales dominate them completely in the second half, and the inevitable happened. England were poor in the U.S game, which was down to the American team’s mindset and tactical approach. Southgate set up the team like does, and just about got the job done, boring and frustrating though it was.

England have a far superior squad to the US. People thinking the US could or should have topped the group are just being unbelievably biased and/or showing a lack of knowledge. The US had an incredibly good game against England; England had a fairly bad game... yet the US at their best, still couldn't beat a sluggish England side. Pulisic is the best player in the US squad... he's doesn't get in the England squad; he's not as good as any of England's wingers. The Fifa World rankings put the US at 16th. Some people seem to actually think that tells you something of their ability; Japan are ranked 24th, but they are far better than the US, Hungary are far better but are ranked 36th. There are many lower ranked teams who are better; because the ranking system is worthless. The US team is simply not very good. Some people will think I'm hating on them, but I'm not; it's just a reality check.

@@I_like_ike the English team is just as young; the average is only slightly raised due to a handful of older players. You are basing your assessment on one game? And in doing so, ignoring that the US played their best while the English side were sluggish and poor. And as I pointed out already; even then, the US still couldn't win the game. The standard of the US side is poor in comparison to England. If you can't see that, you clearly don't know what you are on about.

Personally, i would like a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 with Pickford, Shaw, Maguire, Stones, Walker Bellingham, Rice Rashford, Foden, Saka Kane I agree Rashford has to start, and he offers pace and a more direct winger option. Foden for me also has to start he won the Rashford freekick and grabbed a goal. Although i would want to see him as a 10. I just think he has a better chance to use his creativity in the middle and allows England to pick two other wingers.

Rashford has to be dropped. Gave the ball away all the time and against better opposition in a winner takes all we can't afford that. Outside of goals he was worst player on the pitch.

I agree passing was bad first half, but none of the winger, marcus has the ability to make runs behind the defense and cause havoc
