    White horses are so darling. I rarely have seen purely white foals, and so I think of Lethal Whites born of overo parents, and those are the ones that die within hours of birth...so to see a foal that’s pure white like this that’s not lethal is quite amazing.

    This mare and foals white is most likely Maximum Expression Sabino. Sabino is a completely safe paint gene. Lethal White is caused by breeding Overo to Overo. Overo in a homozygous expression causes the deletion of the gene that controls melanin. Unfortunately that gene also controls the development of the muscles that work the intestinal tract. So the foal can't digest. When breeding Overo to Overo the chance of this happening is 25% Way too high.

    @@AfricanHorsewoman It gets even crazier. True whites, like these thoroughbreds, are only able to be tested by genetics to tell that they aren't a very light cremello. I didn't understand all of it only that Cremellos and True Whites have different genes expressed for coat coloring.

    Really? That might mean any pattering with white in it (Tobiano, Overo, Splashed White as well) could mutate into Dominant White. Essentially this is Albinism, isn't it? Not that I agree with breeding those on purpose as DW horses (and other animals with similar genetics) have a lot of genetic health problems from various (if mostly indirect) skin diseases to deafness or even blindness. Imho that doesn't justify breeding DW just for looks. But, well, that's just my own opinion... To anyone who doesn't know: do not breed two DW horses to each other! If the foal ends up getting a DW copy from each parent it will die before it's born which wouldn't be worth the risk to either foal or mare. That's btw tha actual reasoning behind "the white coming from the mother" - you could of course also breed any normal colored mare to a DW stallion and may end up with a DW foal which then has its DW copy from its sire...

I got him as a new 3 month old weeklong from a ranch in North Dakota and he is from a very high end blood line. So they branded all their foals. I was so upset about that but he’s my baby now and no one will ever hurt him again. He’s 18 years old now and I do over due with him. Sunblock and all

Anything can be dangerous. Heck even walking down stairs can be dangerous if you are not careful. I can tell you in my lifetime I have been hurt way more in sports than I ever have riding a horse. I got my first horse when I was five years old and have been riding horses since I was five years old. Also, there are so many, many videos that train people about horse and can be helpful at times. Have you ever considered breeding to a top sire such as Pharoah or Up and coming Justify?

  • @109367

    @109367

    5 жыл бұрын

    American Pharoah's stud fee isn't even available to the public, he is up for private breeding but some have suggested his fee is as much as $200,000. Justify I don't think has had an official price on his services yet, but some estimate it will be at least $100,000. Now, compared to Revolutionary's fee (the sire of this filly) of just $5,000 I think it's clear why the guy is not sending his mares to these stallions. Even if he tried they would probably be rejected, you don't just get to throw money at the stud farms and expect them to give you a breeding slot, they can and do decline mares if they are not good enough.

  • @sassyavocado4337

    @sassyavocado4337

    5 жыл бұрын

    On top of what has already been said most mares that breed to those stallions need to be top notch too. It is a privilege and very exclusive and one of those things if all of that isn't right not even money can buy you in. The owners / managers of top stallions wont give up a spot in the breeding schedule meant for high potential mares just to breed to lesser known ones since the foals and their success make a stallion a top stallion. No offense but this line is not known for triple crown or breeders cup winners and therefore won't be accepted by the owners / managers of the top stallions. The only chance for this line to ever breed to top stallions is a filly of this mare to become a champion herself on the racecourse and then be breed to one of the top stallions. I see where you are coming from since it would be nice to have a champion the may look a bit more exotic than the many bays, browns and chestnuts out there but the thoroughbred has never been bred to look a certain way but rather to perform no matter what the look of the horse might end up as. For example some people describe Seattle Slew as one of the ugliest racehorses they have ever seen but he was a champ so it didn't matter.

    St3phie Paranormal I think they were referring to the type of white that the horse was as there are a few different gene combinations which can result in a white horse, including dominant white, sabino white, and another which comes out of the frame overo gene, and is known as lethal white, as for some reason, possessing the double copy of this gene (this is a recessive white) also leads to the gut not being formed properly so the foals will invariably die within 72 hours of birth.

    I know I'm a bit late, but no, they're not albino. There's no such thing as an albino horse. Both this foal and its dam are what is called dominant white or white spotting, a group of spontaneous mutations of the KIT gene which result in horses appearing fully white or with sabino-like patterns (like Buchiko, for example). Basically, it's a big white spot that covers 50-100% of the horse's body.

I am very intrested in learning about colored racehorses, but the only one I know so far is Miss Vista (bay splash white, unfortunately euthanised), who was very good for colored racehorse. I noticed colored mares are rather better than colored stallions.

    Her name is White Vessel. She has had at least 3 wins. Look for her clips on KZread or pininterest or google. She is long and lanky and very jiggly till she’s run her race she is full of beans! There also another mostly white one called Yukichan (Phantom). But do check out WHITE VESSEL Japanese racehorse (google) she is spectacular.

  • @madelinewright4496

    @madelinewright4496

    Because most "white" horses are born a colour and grey out as they age. These two are max white sabino, meaning they have a white spotting pattern covering their entire body. Just one huge white spot- which is very uncommon in thoroughbreds and only a few lines carry sabino

    He said the magic word: "Sell". As usual, it's all about money. In reality, the racing industry still breeds way too many animals, and many end up being slaughtered. Those that do run often endure doping, injury and unnatural living conditions. Thankfully, racing is slowly disappearing. It is an archaic, cruel sport and the world will be a better place when it eventually ends. --Adopted OTTB owner.

    It's only abusive depending on the jockeys and the environment, if the horse liked to race such as, Secretariat, seabiscuit and those famous race horses, they don't mind it. Like I said depending on the jockeys

    @@haleyequine2242 A good jockey will make a horse. Stymie is an example. I think trainers, grooms, and riders are play a pretty equal part in making a horse but does go down to the horse itself. Winx loves to run, meanwhile Chautauqua didn't so he retired himself😂

    I feel sorry for horses that love racing but don't have good places get "rescued" and rollkured. Educate yourself a bit. Or just look at photos of American Pharoah or other good racehorses. Anyone who knows something about horses will see pure happiness in their eyes.
