*RARE* stuff at Mildenhall. 4x USMC AV8, 4x MV22's, E4, C5, HC130. 9/6/2024

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A fantastic Sunday at Mildenhall with probably the rarest selection of movements I'll ever see in one day. First time for 4x USMC AV8 harriers to arrive into Mildenhall (non airshow). 4 USMC MV22 Ospreys which is the first time V22s have flown into the UK since they were grounded last year. The 'extras' were a C5, E4, KC135 and a DM HC130 which are all still good on their own. Shame about the weather but can't complain that the USMC movements arrived.

And the Marines are slowly retiring AV-8B Harrier II with the F-35 by 2026. I get this think about stealth but I still can find myself liking the 35. They're is just something about it that really grabs my attention unlike the F-22. Now that bad boy F-22 is my favorite. Have a great day from San Antonio Texas.

I love the Harriers but their time is over. They’re maintenance nightmares. Having to remove the entire wing just to change an engine is not exactly a favorite among maintainers. They’re also not supersonic and take much more flight hours to qualify as it’s very difficult to fly. I can keep going down the list.

The harrier is such an amazing aircraft. I was stationed with them in Germany in the late 80s and got a back seat trip. So good to see the US still using them even though we binned them some years ago

Great to see the harriers (by any name) for 1 last time. A fantastic battle tested machine. I thought that Mildenhall was going to close some years ago. Like a previous poster, I attended the fantastic air shows (at least 7 times). The atmosphere was fantastic and thd sheer variety of displays electric. It was especially fun at the end when the numerous food tents were hawking trying to sell the last burgers and Budweiser

Great capture, seeing the Harrier is a great sight, so powerful with their quick and short take off (key design feature, take off from anywhere potentially), still an amazing plane, sadly missed in the UK, a great British invention. @@Ian-xq4rt "the UK licensed the designs and sold planes to the USA"(sic) Incorrect. The UK never licensed either the Harrier or the Harrier II to the United States. The Marine Corps purchased 110 AV-8As and TAV-8As. The UK abandoned the Harrier II redesign in 1975 leaving the work to McDonnell Douglas and returned to the program in August of 1981 after signing the MoU - Memorandum of Understanding - paying the United States $300 million to rejoin the program which relegated BAE to the role of subcontractor after Thatcher had become Prime Minister.
