**RARE** Slant Tunnel-on-Wheels @ Morro Bay Car Wash

*This video is dedicated to Car Wash Studios, because he identified this machine first as a Slant system of some kind*
This older hybrid machine has an unusual design, featuring a roll-up mitter, reverse rocker panel brushes, high pressure manifolds, and an arm which is used for front and rear presoak application and high pressure cleaning. Wash quality was about 3 stars: cleaning power was low, but the machine was still capable of removing bird droppings and bugs fairly well. The machine was also fairly intelligent, as demonstrated by how it just partially retracts the mitter for front presoak application.
This video shows the best package which was offered at this site: the Deluxe Combination Wash (for $8; oddly just $1 more than the Basic Combination Wash). Touchless options were also available for $7 and $8, and were nearly identical in terms of wash content.

I had not seen a car wash like this before. Looks ancient. Thanks to the cameraman I have a headache from the jiggling and jerking of the camera.

This car Wash has now been removed and the site no-longer operates an automatic wash. You can look up "Morro Bay Car Wash" and see the proof for yourself on their facebook page.

The imperfections are probably from hand washing the car a few years back, before I started my channel. We did it because the washes were free with an oil change at a local hand wash/quick lube.

We had something like this back home in Kansas and it was called a "tunnel on wheels" system. It was the same configuration except there was no wash arm that covered the front and back of the car, and the sprayers for the rinse pass rotated back and fourth.... was there for a while then the pulled it out.

I know you don't do in-bay automatics anymore, but I think you should refilm this from the inside if it still exists. It's just such a rare system that appears to be well maintained. And maybe film one of the touchless cycles?

You're a great car wash photographer!!! You should do more in-bay systems. (No enforcements, and I will stay subscribed even if you can't do in-bays.)

I stopped filming inbays because once you see one machine of a given type, you basically see them all. However, tunnels are much more variable. Even 2 tunnels that are theoretically identical can perform very differently from each other.

Found the info on this system. Made by now defunct company called "Slant Systems", in the early 1990's. They made many obscure systems, and this one obviously wasn't successful, and was very ahead of it's time. Car Wash Studios Wow! I thought Slant only made the S[unknown] Fastrack and some tunnel stuff like what Earl Weiss had. Also I found a Slant rollover at Crystal Car Wash in Willits, CA (though I will not likely visit it for some time because it is far away) that appears to be a Fastrack. This particular system seems to be a later or earlier model of the system seen in the patent info, considering the addition of rocker brushes and different treadle placement. BTW this info really made my day. Thank you!!!

Cool James Although, it depends. Usually if it has a dumb owner that is a cheapskate that doesn’t care about their system and leaves it to rot, then that is when it gets horrible. If the owner cares about their system and does not leave it to rot and they maintain it well, usually it will last good for about 3 years.

@@inactivechannel7029 Ok i've thought about this wash compared to a Ryko SoftGloss for a while. There is NO way that this thing can outperform a Ryko SoftGloss. There's just no way! A SoftGloss has 5 brushes, while this thing has two that don't move, and a mitter. The mitter only works properly while the side brushes don't move in/out. With a Ryko SoftGloss, the brushes are active throughout the whole wash cycle and have 3 more than this wash. And, it has a top brush, rather than a mitter curtain. It also has much better application of presoak, wheel scrub, high pressure prewash, rain-x, clear coat protectant, and onboard or offboard dryers.
