My Star Trek Journey.
I discovered Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek The Original Series in 1972 and fell in love with it even though I was only 8 years old. In 1973, Star Trek The Animated Series premiered on NBC Saturday Morning Cartoons, and kept me entertained until it finished its run in 1974.
Like many other Star Trek fans, I waited and waited as the powers that be kept saying we would get Star Trek Planet of The Titans, then Star Trek Phase 2, until finally premiering Star Trek The Motion Picture in 1979.
As the Harve Bennett movies of the 1980’s began, I was at the theatre on opening night for Nicholas Meyer’s Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan, Leonard Nimoy’s Star Trek III : The Search for Spock & Star Trek IV : The Voyage Home, William Shatner’s Star Trek V : The Final Frontier, and Star Trek VI : The Undiscovered Country.
Before the decade ended, we got Star Trek : The Next Generation. Which, among other things, introduced us to the three letter Star Trek designations with the introduction of TOS for The Original Series, TAS for The Animated Series, and TNG for The Next Generation. We also were introduced to Rick Berman, who went on to give us Star Trek : Deep Space Nine ( DS9 ), Star Trek : Voyager ( VOY ), and Star Trek : Enterprise ( ENT ).
Berman also finished out the second run of Star Trek movies beginning with Star Trek Generation, Jonathan Frake’s Star Trek First Contact, Star Trek Insurrection, and Star Trek Nemesis.
Shortly afterward, the star of the new millennium, JJ Abrams rebooted the movies with Star Trek using a new cast for the actors playing the TOS characters. Taken on its own, this movie; along with Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond were responsible for a completely new Alex Kurtzman Star Trek resurgence. Although many older fans didn’t like Star Trek Discovery ( DIS ), Star Trek Picard ( PIC ), or Star Trek Strange New World’s ( SNW )
Oddly enough, brand new Star Trek animated shows have enjoyed a far greater success amongst the fan base with Star Trek Lower Decks ( SLD), and Star Trek Prodigy ( PRO ).

Great summary! As for the Neptunian, there was a TAS episode which featured similarly themed aliens

I never got the aliens except the Klingon. I did pick up the whole line when they were re released in the 2000s, along with the newer mego figures except for anything related to Kurtzman’s trash

I was 9 or 10 when I decided to make a new spin-off series using the Galileo shuttle-craft I built. I used Zira, Peter Burke, Talos & Cheron. It was then I discovered making the first episode (Personnel Assignment) that Cheron has PETER BURKE'S Face! 😂

Just hearing that makes me smile....... When we grew up, our most important source of entertainment was our imagination. My youngest son is now 30; and I've tried to explain to him what it was like - but he just smiles and nods. It's obvious to me that the younger generations can't even find a common frame of reference with how we grew up. It's completely foreign to them.

@@TREK-WORLD I had built a Mego scale Bridge (used flash light bulbs back then) Transporter, Corridors, Sick Bay & Quarters. My mom bought me The Making of Star Trek book. It was the only guide I had besides memory. I felt like what I had in my bedroom was GOLD! 😊🥰

I would love to hear about your childhood stories concerning Star Trek. Your mention of the Mega scale Bridge you built (as well as that Galileo you built) show a strong creative approach. Which is something that our children never really had to develop. I’ve spoken with some others who built things as well….. Maybe I’ll get enough info together some day to do a video on it.

Another great video, and let me say I am very happy you chose to do the voice over on it. I understand your reasons for using the alternative, but I think your voice and inflections make your videos much more engaging.

Me too...... I'm actually re-recording the voice overs for the next few videos to change back to my voice. To be honest, I think that I've found another way to save time on my end. So I'm going to stay front and center on all the Trek World videos going forward.

I wonder if "The Keeper" figure was or could have been a hybrid of Rok/ generic alien from What Are Little Girls Made Of?

It's really hard to say. For those original runs, they designs were all over the place. Today, we would be more critical of an action figure line that wasn't completely accurate. But back then, we were happy to have anything. 😀

@TREK WORLD. Thank you, I enjoyed your Video about The Mego Star Trek Action Figures. I remember when the original line of ST Mego Action Figures came out in the 1970's. Although I liked many of them, especially the ones depicting The Enterprise Crew and the Klingon and the Romulan (which I remember as the last one in the line that was released) I always felt that some of the aliens could have been better sculpted. For example, the Gorn, Cheron (the figure wasn't dressed as the one in the ST Episode, "Let This Be Your Last (or Final) Battlefield", I believe it was called. The 2 aliens in that episode were dressed in what looked like "jump" or for lack of a better term, "jogging" suits. Also, The Keeper could've been better done, The Talos, and The Mugalo, which as you stated in the video, in the original ST Episode, which didn't wear clothes and was all white, and looked like an ape. HOWEVER, by and large, I liked the ST Mego Action Figures. I UNWISELY didn't buy any of them, because I was going to college @ the time and felt I was too old to play with toys. I found out years later, before Amazon & Ebay came along, they later became collector's items! Many years later, I saw a Lt. Uhura Action Figure being sold loss @ a church flea market. Despite it was being sold out of the pkg. and without the equipment that originally came with it, it was in good condition. Again, I unwisely didn't buy it. Go figure! My loss!

Hi Michael nice to meet you! I can definitely empathize with you on not buying the figures as the years went by. It really was almost unthinkable about what would become of our “toys” as we aged. The real concept of “collectables” as it exists today really wasn’t even a dream for those of us Gen One fans back in the day. All-in-all, I think the reason we hold the Mego figures in such esteem is because they so clearly evoke the memories of our childhood. Very much the way that a Yankee Candle can bring a memory back. I don’t think there are any other “toys” from our generation that do this as effectively. Even with the corners they cut (as you mentioned above), they still managed to catch that “lightening in a bottle”.

I never had any of these. I was never in to Dolls or "Action Figures". You mentioned the tribble never came out. I don't ever remember seeing one. However I had a Tribble but I bought is from Lincoln Enterprise. It was real small compared to what was seen in the episode so I was disappointed with it as I was disappointed with the gold colored Enterprise on a chain that was suppose to look like the Enterprise in Catspaw. I never bought from them again. I hope you do an Episode on Lincoln Enterprise some day.

In a way, there WAS a tribble, but it was a miniature sized one, and I remember it was included as an accessory with the Kolath Klingon (I think that's how his name was spelled) Action Figure.
