Rare Black Forest trumpeter clock with exposed figure. Out of my grandfathers estate.
The clock is documented in the book, Rare and Unusual Black Forest Clocks on page 133. The clock calls the full and half hours on 3 horns. As the call is made the exposed figure turns 90 degrees to face forward, after the call he retracts to the side profile.
A exposed figure trumpeter clock is very rare. One of only a small handful worldwide.
An identical clock with an exposed cuckoo vs trumpeter is found in the Cuckooland museum and a nearly identical cases exposed rooster clock resides in a private US collection.
When my grandfather purchased this clock in Germany about 29 years ago the exposed trumpeter figure was missing. He had this figure carved in the Black Forest copying another example. It is now restored and functional.
The clock has not ran in a couple years and will need some minor adjustments, but it is complete and ready to be displayed.
The clock measures about 37” high and 14” wide.
