Rare Car Restoration 5: Engine Rebuild Part 1 Rebuilding Fiat 1.2 16v Punto, 500, Panda

In this video I begin to take the engine apart on my little 1.2 litre 16valve fiat Punto cabrio.
The engine was lacking power and so needed investigation, having exhausted all other possible issues i could address without taking the engine apart it left only one option, take the cylinder head off to see what's going on inside the engine.
As part of this work I remove the cambelt, water pump and head gasket of the 1.2 16 valve fiat engine. This gives you some idea of the work that is involved with these jobs and in the future I will make videos breaking down how to do these specific tasks so subscibe for those. for now just sit back and enjoy the journey as I break down this 1.2 16valve 85cv (86bhp) engine.

If you are breaking down the head then you will need a valve spring compressor. This kit is very cheap just £16 amzn.to/3T6ystd
you will need some longer reach Ribe bits to take the head off, these are cheap at under £10 amzn.to/3TlrbY3.
But as you can see in the video we ended up hammering the bit into the head bolts so I would recommend some impact bits or high quality bits such as these amzn.to/48LVLhQ you may need both if the impact bits won't reach the bolts in the cam carrier.

    Use new head bolts. Bit waffly at the start 4 mins just to get into it.......

    I’ve literally just been doing exactly this tonight. Haynes manual has a pattern to make your own tool from a piece of flat metal to hold them, but I am very cheap and so I just use a flat bit of card that I then wiggled out once the cam carrier was in place

    Is it necessary if I only move the rocker arm for the gasket to hold the cams or valve buckets?

    @@cauchemarre_ you'll struggle to get the new gasket in without dropping at least one or two of the followers so I would prepare to remove the whole thing and do something to stop them falling out.

    @@PuntoHowto thank you for the answer. I just don’t get how and when should I put the tool in place since the head would still be « locked » over the cylinder even with the bolts unlocked… 😩

    Hello, I need to change the Rocker Arm Gasket, there is a little bit of oil leak. How do you unscrew the intake black head that is above the rocker arm? Thank you!!

    There are several torq screws holding it down, they are well hidden between the pipes of the intake manifold, get a little torch to make sure you can see them and find them all as trying to force it when there is still a screw in is only going to lead to something breaking

    There can be a number of reasons for this, you need to read the car’s stored fault codes to find the cause
