Notice how respectful the news interviewer is to Lugosi, and how he wishes him "the best". He doesn't ask any provocative questions, or try to get a "rise" out of Lugosi. So much different than the trash media we have today.

A little bit trying to imply he could buy drugs illegally though he said they were prescription asking about some "domestic problems" with alcohol some young wife left him maybe but Bela just smiles doesn't let it upset his mood. The nurses were nice to him I guess.

It's really cool to see Lugosi speaking so casually like this. He plays all of his roles so much like he's in a stage play with his stern movie voice that I almost forgot that he was a normal person outside of the films. 😅 This is very nice to see.

Wow - he mentions the coming role in the "Eddy" Wood film. Poor fellow. You can see how age had taken its toll on him at this point, but he smiled nevertheless, put on a very happy face, and discussed honestly some of the health problems he had to overcome. He couldn't really ever bounce back at this point, but soldiered on bravely, despite the hardships and obstacles he was facing. You can't help but feel for the guy here.

@@janetlieb2507 It is indeed an interesting document. I feel like Lugosi himself or someone around him set up this filmed interview in hopes that it would get seen by Hollywood producers and financiers to communicate that Lugosi was a safe bet to put in a film or television role, as his addictions no doubt made him persona non grata to everyone - everyone save Eddie Wood, of course. So yes, what we're seeing here is self-promotion to be sure, but it's also a concrete step out of addiction just like checking into the hospital was a concrete step.

Just watched Dracula for the first time in almost 20 years ... I am older and wiser now, and more temperate by the challenges of life, to finally fully appreciate how much Bela's performance - along with the Lyrical photography - evokes a Sensuous, even Erotic, Dream that lures and captures you. ... Thank you, Bela, and may God still embrace you in his graces.
