There was a time, when the audiences in Kabul were appreciative of the finest music of India. Savagery has taken over now. Fine arts are withering. I used to listen to Radio Kabul in the evenings on 49 meter band shortwave prior to 1970. Great artists like Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Begum Akhtar used to perform in Kabul. Where have those days gone?

Dr belal saheb , I'm now 60.from very childhood I liked her . I'm literally mad after this voice . as a search result I found this item . I'm very very thankful to u and I salute you . pl do continue.

In the early 70s, she used to come to Ahmedabad every year and she used to sing to full house. Sadly, she died also there, suffering a heart-attack .

I am pakistani but my parents migrated from kanpur India 🇮🇳 to Pakistan 🇵🇰, I have never seen kanpur but kanpur is living in my heart and mind since childhood.

Lafz hi nahi h apki taarif k lye. aapne is qadar khubsurat gulukaar ko sambhal kar rkha. Dil dimagh par ek surur sa taari h or ek hi lafz nikalta h waaaaaaaaaah waaaaaaaah wasaaah

Thank you Sir for your efforts in bringing this wonderful music to us. It was in Kabul 49 years ago that I had the experience that has led me to delight in this devotional music. It was a woman's voice coming from a radio stall and drifting up to the roof opposite where I was staying. I have no understanding of Urdu or Hindi or Farsi, but the voice is another instrument in the orchestra.

Rare ghazal most probably Of Jigar Muradabadi. Thanks for sharing this gem.

Right. I had the opportunity to meet very many Afghanis during our stint in the middle East for about 10 years. Yes, they are a kind genteei people fond of music, specially ghazal baithaks.

Speechless what a preformance full credit goes to Dr saheb bilal for sharing such a wonderful treasure begumji sung to the perfection in response to one of our indian friends i must mention thar thoes golden days have gone with war in afghanistan when there was a time for such a great music but, afghans still love north indian classical music (shastria music) as well as qawali and ghazals may thoes time come again

Please don't refer to it as "shastria music" - that is a term which denotes hegemonic view of culture that evolved from contributions from ALL Muslim, Sikh and Hindu artists - "shastria music" by design appropriates contributions of Sikh and Muslim musicians. Hindostani music or Raag music or South Asian classical music are better and more inclusive terms.

@@ustadjan5912 history itself says that the term "shastria sangeet" is a 19th century formulation. Even "Carnatic sangeet" is much older in history than what is termed "shastria sangeet".

I once heard this ghazal in mid 70's....... Only once until now...... Brought back incredible memories, a voice that will last forever... Thanks for such a great ghazal.
