Porky is missing out of the newest Smash Bros, so he will be a DLC fighter some time soon, but not around E3 like later on. Lately, the internet has been talking Earthbound because Earthbound 64 footage came out. I think their will be another Earthbound game, and when Porky is revealed is when they will announce a new Earthbound game!!!

Wait, how old are you? I had assumed you were younger than me, but '95-'96? I didn't start getting my own games until like '99-'00. I think the first games I actually got on my own were DK64, Majora's Mask, Banjo-Tooie, Oracle of Ages and whatnot. Not that I hadn't been playing games before that, but those were all got for me by my parents. Also, never had a Sega CD. Always wanted one, but my parents wouldn't get it for me. Still have my original model 2 Genesis though. I think I still have my original NES too. Didn't have the SNES either. Good times.

Just for info , the version of Panzer Dragoon that was included with PD Orta was actually a straight port of the Windows 95 PC version ,which would have been a much easier game to port than the original Saturn code, even more so given the Xbox was just a glorified PC (right down to the PIII CPU and Geforce3 variant of the GPU). It would have basically been impossible for the original Xbox to emulate the Saturn , certainly at any sort of playable speed

Had the big box Earthbound, also $25 at K Mart in 1996, just being liquidated. Best score ever was Snatcher for $6 used in 1997. CIB of course, even with the foam brick to keep the jewel case sturdy. I became a patron after seeing this video. I used to be a video game journalist, and our website got completely crushed and buried when Metacritic decided that they weren't going to list our reviews anymore for nebulous reasons. Publishers stopped sending us review code and copies because Metacritic was half our traffic. Never recovered and I've moved on to other things. I've been there, and I wanted to support. Became a Patron because this video really spoke to me on a personal level. Keep on fighting the good fight!

Game collecting stories are honestly so fun to tell and hear about. When I was a kid I remember going to our local rental store with my uncle around the time when the 7th generation started and I really wanted to play Chibi-Robo on the Gamecube cause I would always rent it. They weren't letting people rent the game anymore cause they wanted to sell it and I was super bummed out but my uncle got it for me at an incredibly cheap $10 Canadian nowadays the NTSC version is around $100 - $200 which isn't really that expensive but that game means a lot to me and I'm just happy to have a CIB that's pretty much new (thank god I took care of my games). I'm not one to usually comment on videos but this video brought back a lot of memories from collecting and it made my day. Great video you two!

Derek, the things you said at the end are the things I'm preaching for years and I'm happy that you are saying it to a wider audience than I ever could. I kinda started collecting arround 20 years ago. My family always visited flea markets and I came along when I was still little. When I was 5 or 6 years old I got a 2nd Hand SNES and GB (the grey brick one), and from then on I always looked for SNES or GB games when we were on a flea market. The games were pretty cheap compared to today, so I could get good games for 5 to 10 DM (Deutsche Mark). This was the way I started getting videogames. Today I rarely buy SNES or GB games because of the prices. I usually get some obscure ones the majority doesn't care about like the Japan-exclusive Super Formation Soccer 2 or The Fish Files. Today I mostly buy Wii, Xbox or DS games on flea markets or at videogame shops, because these are now the games that are easy and cheap to get. For example I lately got Pikmin 3 for 5 bucks. And I tell everyone who wants to get into retro stuff to either look for some good bets or to get the stuff no one else is interested in. The best way to get old games for less money is to get them in this time span where parents sell the console of their kids and no one with an income has nostalgia for them. I used to start my SNES collection like that. Greeting from Germany, I really love your channel! You two are doing an amazing job!

I dunno if I would call myself a collector because I don’t seek out rare or valuable games, but I do have a few Limited Run games. They’re not really worth anything, but maybe their value would increase over time, being limited and all that. It’s whatever, though. I’m not interested in how valuable a game is, I’m more interested in having the physical media to add to my collection.

Panzer Dragoon 1 also was released on PC (It's how I played it as a kid) and I wouldn't be surprised if Orta's version is the PC release or code. The PC release actually worked perfectly on windows 7 when I tried it out of the box again. Shoutout to Sega for making Orta back compat on Xbox one thus helping preserve PD1 and Orta.

can confirm that it's the PC version, as stated in an early Punching Weight episode and by Larry Bundy Jr. in the comments section.

Funny this should go up a few days after I found a CIB copy of Armored Core: Project Phantasma (PS1) for ~$31.00 from a used video store, when the going rate for that game CIB on eBay is typically over $80.00.

The rarest game I own is Plumber's Don't Wear Ties on 3DO in the box. I remember when a loose Earthbound cart would only fetch $70. I got my copy of Earthbound cheap because it was water damaged. It did not work. I kept the damaged label, but I have a fully functional copy that I've played through several times.

One thing I was amazed to find years ago was Sin & Punishment: Star Successor for $2 CAD new at a GameStop. It seems like hardly anyone bought that. It's still cheap to get though. But, maybe in 10 years it'll be worth something.

Cool to see you pulling out the copy of Earthbound. I found your channel probably around 7 years ago because of that review. Because of your earlier videos, I played a lot of really great games that I had no idea existed, like Sweet Home, which is now probably in my top 5 NES games. So thanks for sharing all of these with us :D

Oh man, those strat guides at the end, though. I used to work for GameStop, so when we pennied out the guides, I would take them home as opposed to tossing them in the garbage. I still have boxes of guides for games I don't own, haha.

The best find I've ever had was finding Metal Warriors for SNES for $3 at Book Off in NYC. This was years ago before they started charging above eBay prices for everything. When I picked it up I actually instinctively looked around me to see if anyone had noticed it, as if I had done something wrong. When I started collecting back in college for my Genesis (because it was cheap), I decided I was going to try and collect games I'd discovered via emulation. I paid $30 for a copy of MUSHA boxed on eBay, which at the time I remembered thinking "Man, this is a bit pricey but I really do love this game." Little did I know it would go for A BIT MORE years later.

I haven't been collecting for very long so I don't have many really ridiculous deals But there is a pawn shop near my house where they don't know anything about video game prices, so I can get everything for €1,- there, the best deal I got was probably my SNES, I got the complete set with a copy of Super Mario All-Stars for €5,- I love these kinds of videos, I can't wait to see more of your collection and to hear more of those crazy stories

Many of my best gaming purchases (here in the UK) were whenever a retailer was facing financial difficulties and liquidating stock. While it is of course a tragedy when this happens, the company's urgent need for cash means many rare games are sold at staggeringly low prices. When GAME first entered administration in summer 2012, I purchased Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Wild Arms XF for £5 each (about $7.80 at the time). Then a year later in July 2013, the UK's Blockbuster went bust and I bought sealed copies of Pandora's Tower, Dragon Quest VI DS, and Project Zero (aka Fatal Frame) II Wii for less than £30 collectively (cira $45 at the time).

I got a semi-complete NA copy of Solatorobo: Red the Hunter on the DS. I won it from an eBay auction for about $97 USD. I played it and it's a fantastic and technically impressive RPG, and it's super rare, like over 100,000 copies *worldwide* exist, the majority of them in Japan and Europe.

Mine is Star Fox Super Weekend. Got it back in like 2003 at Gamestop where it was marked as a copy of regular SNES Star Fox so I got it for $8. Your site there priced it at over $1000 now. So that's nice.

You have multiple copies of strategy guides because they had a limited shelf life at Gamestop and the assistant manager would "throw them out" or reprice for a penny a couple times a month, where they would immediately land on Amazon for like $9.99

I've had the hardest time figuring out this game that I played when I was younger that was given to my dad from a coworker. I recently figured out it was a Panzer Dragoon game but the rail shooter part didn't seem familiar. I swear if it was the super rare one I'm so mad I don't have it anymore! Seeing the gameplay clips here though I'm pretty sure that's what it was 😤

It's true that you can still find some crazy deals. I snagged a NES Miracle Piano for $1 at a garage sale last month. Never count on it, though. I happen to be a guy who loves visiting secondhand/antique stores, garage sales, and the like just to see what sort of weird old junk I can gawk at. If I don't come home with anything at all, I'm still happy. If that would frustrate you, I say stick to dedicated game stores and eBay.

One pickup I would never forget was one time I was at a gametop where they were selling a bunch of PS2 games years ago and onetime while browsing I picked up Marvel VS Capcom 2 for $30 and had a felling the game was worth more and expensive, so pulled out my money and brought it. Plus ended up playing the crap out of it too.

Rarest Games I have - Gitaroo Man (PS2) found it at Gamestop on clearance for $20. - Both Osu Tatakae Ouendan games AND Elite Beat Agents, all for like $30. - A Distribution Cart for shiny Entei/Raikou/Suicune for the DS, was $45 for me. Ebay. Snore. - Gimmick! on the Famicom. Ebay again, but I got mine for $200 which was crazy considering how high it normally goes.

I've had 2 lucky finds so far: - The first one was POSTAL 2 on PC. I was in high school at the time and I already knew about the game being banned in my country (France) when I found it for 12 euros at a thrift store. It was the English version. I still don't know how that game ever ended up there. - The second one was F-ZERO on SNES. I found the German version, complete in box, on Amazon for 5 euros. It still has the original price tag (50 Deutschmark) on the box!

I found a working Philips CD-i console in a bargain outlet for $20 (no controller), because the owner thought is was "CD player" (it does play CDs, so he technically wasn't wrong...). Had I not noticed the words "CD-i" on it, I would've likely missed it myself, as this model looks nearly identical to standard CD players and looks nothing like the more "common" variants of the CD-i you seen online. I've went to many retro game stores, never seen anyone have one for sale, yet some dumpy bargain outlet in my hometown a couple blocks away had this.
