Back in the day, no one in the house owned a damn camera. All the family pictures were taken by uncles/aunts and family friends. So much for getting those patches.
I played Pitfall on my Atari 2600. I took a picture of my high score, sent it off to Activision and got the patch. I still have that and I believe I still have the letter that came with it.
I sent in my photo of my Pitfall score. It was early mid 80's, Atari was a dead brand. I got a letter saying that the company was no longer at that office BUT they'd left behind a box of patches. So I got my Pitfall patch.

Sweet. 👍
There was a setup at a shopping mall to play 'Enduro', and I got me a sweet patch for lasting so long!

I think I deserve a patch for "lasting long" in another game...sadly I am still waiting for THAT patch
no if you showed up to school with those patches on your jacket you would get the crap beat out of you! lol
This is basically pretty much like old school Xbox Live Achievements and PSN Trophies, but these patches are cool and are actually something that you could’ve held in your hand.
Actervision
Billy Mitchell has them all.
Junkman, you are the best on KZread. I knew of the patches but never applied for one. Activision games were great and H.E.R.O was beyond awesome!
Patches? We don't need no stinking patches.

@@Sammy_Boy_SmithThe UHF quote was "Badgers?..." That was hilarious though even though I didnt get the reference for years.
I still have my Kaboom cartridge, wonder if I can still send away for the patch. If I had that I’d finally be one of the cool kids at 44!
Sadly, new video idea for you, Junkman. The boy from Alf has died.
Nice hat. Love the badge... er... patch. Snaggle on!
I wasn't that good at video games as a kid, I don't know why but you talking about these game patches kind of reminds me of the Wizard.
I didn't hear of this, but if I had then I would have tried to get a patch.
I totally had the Explorer patch!
I had Barnyard Stormers and River Raid. I never knew about the patches!
we had the Colecovision expansion module and i played Megamania (similar to Space Invaders) a lot i'd take a picture of the screen and then weeks later when we finally got them from the PhotoMat, it'd just be a huge reflection of the flash - useless years later, from having aquariums, i learned about taking the pictures from an angle to avoid this but alas it was too late / = my cousin in New Jersey had Pitfall II and my recollection of it was like a cross between the original and Raiders of the Lost Ark i don't know anyone personally who had any of these patches, but it would have been cooler than my Webelos uniform
If game companies did that stuff today they would give out digital patches
I sent away for a decathlon bronze patch. I took the picture with a polaroid. It's possible that they weren't offering them anymore. I got an atari long after they were cool.
I had an Atari, but I don't think I had any of these games. The patches would have been awesome to have. I'm not sure how well they'd pair with metal patches, but I had those much later.
I got 10k on Chopper Command, but Activision sent me back a letter declining me a patch because the score was not clear enough on the screen. Twice! Of course, my great aunt insisted that I stand next to the tv, cuz who wants to take a picture of just a boring score!
if you've already done it and i missed it somehow i apologize...but i would love to see you do a video on the old TOMY pocket games. i think those, like suckerman, are something thats been forgotten that shouldnt be

I can’t rmemene if it was on my to do list or done it lost. I’ll have to check
I had the same problem with the flash ruining the TV screen so you couldn't see the score. Never got the patches, but I did get 300,000 points on Dolphin. The game play stopped & it read "Amazing!" where the points were. I feel embarrassed sharing that.
I thought I married Christie Brinkley when that Freeway patch came in! Must of been two months for the camera film to develop. Damn .....I kind of miss waiting for things!
Activision I think may have had some of the best games on the Atari 2600. Played the hell out of so many of those games especially river raid and kaboom.
We used to play Atari until the joysticks broke they had a game for everything ET Indiana Jones tanks middle command
I only had Pitfall and River Raid, which were both games I loved. I never knew about the patches. Activision for Atari seemed to have better games then Atari themselves!
Star⭐️Master...🤘🏼💯✔️
I had a few of those. Skiing was one. I Know, I know...
@That Junkman Whan you were talking about that one episode of "Star Trek the Next Generation"...Ware (Counselor Deanna Troi beat Data at a game of Chess)? For a minute there, I thought that you were going to start yelling. BOY! I FELT LIKE GRABBING A 2x4 AND BASHING COUNSELOR TROI UPSIDE HER HEAD WHEN SHE DID THAT!!! There had actually been a lot of controversy surrounding the similarities between Activision's 1981 game "Freeway" for the Atari 2600. And Konami's classic arcade hit "Frogger", which was released that same year. According to a 1982 interview with Freeways developer "David Crane" for Games magazine. Crane was asked which idea had been developed first? His responded was? Neither! These two games were developed in secure laboratories 6,000 miles apart, right around the same time.
This video went on a little too long.
